Question Trade temptation

I always get in trouble when I start looking at other cars. Of late I have been looking at the new Audi S7. Quite impressive. I lust in my heart, should I even dare consider a trade for my 09 911 4S 22k. Would I give up too much to get back into a 4 door sedan. Set me right O great and wise members of this forum...trod

If you want 4 doors, buy the Pano.

How this would tempt you I'll never know! It wouldn't make me look/think twice

Agreed. I like Audis. Owned one in the past. Driven almost every recent variant and always walked away feeling like the car was "solid". But in the end, I could never shake the "lacks personality" trait. Audis typically come well optioned, feel well made, drive well. Nothing I can really put my finger on but just not that fun to drive. An attractive date with zero personality, is the best way I can describe the experience. While I believe you will enjoy the added space and extra doors in the short-term, in a few months that will become common place (youtube Eddie Murphy's talk on Ritz crackers) and what you appreciate will fade. Thus leaving you lusting for something that has character, personality when driving it.

I'd consider an Audi as a compliment to my 911 but never in place of it. LexVan is correct, get a Pano if you want the Porsche feel with 4 doors. Hell, even my Cayenne GTS is a blast to drive. I might even like it a bit more than the 997.2.

Best of luck!

Take care,

KS

I've been looking at the S7 as well and love it. But it would never replace my C2S.

Never, well most likely never. The new car bug is hard to cure.

+1.

The A7/S7 are great looking cars with Audi's best-in-class interiors. It is very hard to improve on Audi interiors.

Keep your 997 it's more fun to drive. The S7 is too heavy.

When I was looking I test drove an S5, I was debating a New Boxster, almost New 911 S, and the practical side of me thought an S5 Cabrio might be nice. After a test drive back to back of all 3 the S5 was out right away and they I test drove the Boxster and 911 again. It is a very nice care as are all Audis IMO, but it is NOT a Sports Car by any means, way to heavy. I would imagine the S7 is even worse. So the question is do you want one of the best Sports cars on the road or do you want one of the Best Luxury Cars??? I prefer Sports Cars.

If I were to buy a 4 door car right now it would be the S6, I do love Audi's, but it would mean getting rid of my Truck, not my 911.

You realize that this is the exact same thing that Jeremy Clarkson said about Audi several seasons ago on Top Gear. He was a little more succinct though. I believe his comment was, The Audi is like Germany; clean, efficient and very nice to look at - yet nobody goes there on holiday. We own two Audi's and they are just that - passionless cars that capably get the job done. They do, however, make me appreciate my 911 that much more after driving them.

My bss has an S7; I was a passenger in it but have not driven it - great car, but its just way different from banging through six gears at 7k rpm on my 997. Have a'12 E350 as my DD so i'd equate that moreso (to a degree) D you realize that they post the 0-60 (i believe Car & Driver) for the S7 at about 3.8 seconds?? for a car over 4k lbs and around 425 -450HP? 997/991 C2S are not that fast- I don't get it?

I read 4.7 secs: 0-60 - 420hp + 4350lbs isn't destined for greatness.

When I picked up my 997 I was looking at S4/6/7's -- nice cars but not "sports" cars.

Thank you Tcc1999 and all for that kind advice. In the I did own an 06 A6 4.2 and S4 and forgot for the moment that they are not sports cars. I did read somewhere, that in every Porsche there is race car. The lust is gone. Trod
