Default to cab or not to cab...

Going to test drive a 997.1S Cabriolet in a couple days. Still on the edge if I like them or not. Really like it with the top down, but kinda messes up the lines with the top up. Anyone else have this uncertainty? The car is 50k miles and they are asking 38k for it. Think it's a decent deal.

I like the look top up or down. Not that loud even on the highway with top up. Perfect for good weather. Cant go wrong. But I live down south where the weather is good most of the year.

Well, to each his own. I've owned two and loved them both. But there are many folks out there that prefer the coupe and I can understand why. For me, I like the option of putting the top down and enjoying the weather. With the top up, noise is pretty minimal and the top wears very well. Hard to go wrong with either.

Get a PPI!

Best of luck!

Cab all the way! You won't regret it! If you get the coupe, you don't have the option on a nice day or even a nice night to put the top down. When you hear the flat 6 sing and the wind swoosh around but not in the car, you will get a big smile with that top down. They are very rigid (albeit not as much as a coupe -are you into lots of track days?) and are built from the factory as a cab. The top is well insulated, very reliable to operate, and essentially same performance as the coupe. What's there not to like? GL, enjoy & welcome to the club!

Dumb question. Is the cab smaller? Someone said the backseat is not useable in the cab.

I cab'ed.... Thought I wanted a coupe but after a drive in a cab that's all that took. Consider a targa too.

I ferry my two grandsons in the back they are 10 and 7. I only need to move the passenger seat up to acomodate the 10 yo's gangly legs. They have never complained... '09 cab

What back seat? IMO, a 911 without a convertible is a waste of time unless you intend to track the car.

It will be a daily driver in the northeast, so will only get a couple top down months. Might be tracking a couple times a year

Consider the Targa model as previously mentioned. I just picked up mine and I LOVE IT! It has a few Targa rattles, but I can live with them and the large glass screen provides a great atmosphere.

I've had the roof open at all sorts of speeds *cough* and aside from increased wind noise, there is no buffeting inside. Heated seats are recommended too so you can run with the glass retracted at night or when its cold out.

Correction: Back seats are usable with the top-down, but not with the wind deflector attached (it's one or the other).

source: I own a 997 cab.

Is the wind deflector a must?

No. It works well enough if you have all windows up otherwise not so well. Most of the time I don't bother.
