If you want all the middle-school boys in your neighborhood slobbering over, and wanking to, it, then the Audi is your pick (there's one in our neighborhood). Otherwise the P-car is a much better value performance-to-pricewise.

Or am I thinking of the mistress?

R8 is a great car, but I'll never own an Audi out of warranty.

Why so many negative thoughts about the R8? I have an 09' base Carrera and just recently acquired an R8 V10 plus. I cannot say it's better than the 911 coz I hav'nt driven it that much but I'm keeping my Carrera because it's pretty reliable and I can fix it myself.
Here is a video of the delivery.

Maybe as a track car, but it would not be a great option for DD or high mileage. I did a little cross shopping because just be be sure on the porsche. I was really surprised by the lackluster interior, and that's comparing it to a porsche! Maybe the newest ones are better, as i did not get a chance to see the latest model.

Not my experience at all! I'm on my fourth one:

1) 1998.5 A4 V6 -- traded in for #3. 120K miles.
2) 1999 A6 Avant V6 -- rear-ended and totaled @ 80K miles
3) 2005 S4 Cabriolet -- traded in for 2011 Carrera S Cab, 95K miles
4) 2011 Q5 -- my DD and family hauler, 50K miles with no issues so far (knock on wood)

That said, I am a fan of extended warranties and our cars have them until 2017 and 2018, respectively. Just to help me sleep peacefully at night.

That's good to hear, both my brother in laws brought Audi A4's, as soon as warranty expired, they had costly repairs. They got rid of it quick. I've also heard horror stories from friends. Audi is very popular brand here due to the AWD. The R8 is the only car in the Audi lineup that I am interested in.
