Default Seatbelt retracting

My 05 drivers side 997 seat belt is losing the spring retraction when you take off the seat belt. I have to raise it up and slowly let is retract otherwise it just hangs. I assume that needs a complete replacement? Is this a doable home task where i can buy the replacement and replace myself fairly easily?

replacement is simple. search red seatbelts for diy instructions.

you may be able to clean and oil but I'd guess you'd have to replace it.

Timely post, I have an 05 with the the same issue. I find myself having to "escort" the driver's belt back to its home, and it's annoying. There are worse things though.

I had a similar issue a bit over a year ago and resolved it by treating the seat belt as if it was floss and flossing the part that lets you adjust height. Mine was getting caught in that area. It now retracts completely fine.

Take a zip tie, or the belt itself, and use it to floss the channel where the belt runs. There's not much else to explain, it's like flossing your teeth, if you ever do so.
