Default Jackpoint jack stands - technique to put all 4 wheels up

I just bought my 2nd pair of JP stands. In order to get all 4 wheels up do I:

1. Jack up at the rear point first, then put the stand in front of the rear wheel, then proceed to the front of the same side and do the same. Then repeat on the other side.

2. jack up the rear jack point farther up so the front JP stand can be slid under, behind the front tire with the pad already in place, followed by the rear stand. This seems more difficult and precarious as the car would be jacked up higher and placement of the front would be less than accurate.

3. Jack up the rears to insert JP stands followed by the fronts.

Crazy question, but given the car is rear heavy, would having the car on stands in the rear, then raising the front of the car higher to insert the front stands ever allow the car to tip over onto its rear end. That would be a nightmare.

Thanks USMC-DS1,

How difficult is it to line everything up so when you drop the car, both sides drop exactly right?

I have a cheap Powerzone floor jack and find that if I loosen the handle even as slowly as I can, the car seems to drop very quickly. Do you think doing each Jackpoint singly is an option so if I miss on the front, the car won't come down on the wrong spot and dent from the pad pin?

ymc226,

Hard to say. I have a cheap steel HF floor jack. It's low profile and has been working great for 4+ yrs. It allows me to control the lowering process precisely.... drops about 1-2mm. I know it defies monetary logic but it works great. The $$$ I saved went into the JP's. One of these days I'll get a pretty/pricey aluminum LP floor jack... in red to match my guards red 997.

I start at the rear, land it and than the front is sticking in the air already. Just jack it a bit higher and land the front.

The other side is similar.

I got my 4 jackstands last week and once you played with it a bit, you will find out how easy it is to raise the car on the 4 stands, and quickly!

I have the standard pads, to have it another inch higher compared to the low profile pads.
