Just out of curiosity,

What car did you guys buy after .2 RS and thought it was worth an upgrade?

458 speciale? Gt2 RS? Or full on to hypercar range?

I am very happy with new to me RS but wonder which car over 300k would provide definite upgrade in experience compared to it.

It is the ultimate water cooles 997 but I know I will feel guilty to put miles on it. And is it really 3 times the fun of 3.8 RS?

I think there's so many low mileage 4.0's, you're doing the world a favor by actually driving it and letting someone else get into one with some miles after you. I think Mooty has 18k miles or so on his.

My first thought was CGT.

A very nicely equipped 993 turbo would be near the top of the list of cars for me. I realize it may not be the drivers car like the RS but it has something special that will stand the test of time.

For me there is no next car to aspire to..... Sort of strange for someone who has always started thinking about my next car immediately after purchasing a car, but I just do not love newer cars with EPS steering and I am not a good mechanic, so air-cooled is not as appealing, The 997 GT3 is the sweet spot for me.

Someone mentioned the 4.0, but I could not handle the extra value and rarity it would stress my out. Interestingly - journalists lately - have stated the 3.8RS is a better drive (a little more challenging) than the 4.0 due to less TQ. I find that interesting.....having never driven a 4.0 I have no clue, just something I have noticed. Even some preferring a 3.6 for engagement.

If I had to replace my GT3: I would either want a 992 Touring (only if backsets are an option) then I could justify the EPS steering, larger size, and electric parking break or a well sorted backdated air-cooled car set to my personal tastes and driver setup where I got to make it special and had upgraded power / suspension / transmission.

I still follow new cars, but mainly for Daily Driver duties, Manual Blackwing, Manual Ford Bronco, Manual M3 sedan, Manual Corolla GRS Hatch, Manual Civic, Manual STI coming soon.....still hoping someone makes a manual wagon, that would be epic.

Air cooled car would be nice. My dream car would be something of 993 Carrera RS. I just cannot go to 992... too big and too ugly IMO. Hypercar would be nice, but way out of league for an average joe like myself.

A well sorted air-cooled car could be epic, that is almost all I look at during events.

I just worry about having it in the shop from time to time, I do not have the time, space, or proficiency to work on it myself.

My main concern with RS is that it hits speed limit too quickly without me noticing... my s2k never did that lol. Vtec kicked in but still less than 50mph lol. I believe 993 would be similar, feels fast yet slow... these are fun cars for the street.

I agree, but I have kids so the backseat (if the rumors are true) has some appeal.
An air-cooled would probably be my top choice. A hypercar has zero appeal to me.

The 3.8 997RS is now considered by many and growing the sweet spot for Porsche GT nirvana.

$ doesn’t always equate to “better”. Lamborghini Countachs are now over $450k. Imho they are on par with a Bricklin in build quality and reliability. Junk.

Better is also a relative term. Every car brings something different to the table in performance, character, feel, design, materials, etc...and some cars are more than the sum of their parts. The trick is to match what one is looking for with what a car delivers. I went from a 991.2 RS to a 997.2 RS and couldn’t be happier even though the 991 was faster.

I for one have 0 interest in Ferraris. 0. I appreciate their beauty and performance but they just don’t draw me. Saw a LaFerrari at my local car wash detail shop was last week. To me it was Meh. I like my RS better.

For me, a car has to move me and stir my soul. It need not be a 6 figure car either. For example I love my little Boss 302 LS. I enjoy it immensely. It has its own charm, character, history and draw. Gets plenty of thumbs up.

Own and desire a car because it delivers what you want, connects with you and makes you smile and your heart race. Not because it’s big bucks.

If it has to be a manual transmission, nothing outside of CGT. Otherwise, as an owner of 997 and 991 GT car AND a 458 I have to say that I enjoy the 458 just tooling around town the most. Drama at ALL rpms and great sound at ALL RPMs. Twitchy steering and hard shifts add to the experience. Maybe a 458 Speciale or a Scud? Not much else is appealing when it's quite possible the 997 GT cars already reach nirvana. We always want more more more....the 997 GT cars might just be 'it'
