For what it's worth

I own both, both of which are manual, black, and beautiful.

Having driven them side by side I can conclude with fact the following.

I am not here to compare interiors, how they look, drivability, acceleration or how they handle. It's easy to say the 992 is miles ahead for these items.

That being said the 997.1 GT3, with the sharkwerks track bypass exhaust is still to this day, the most exhilarating exhaust noises to this date. The sound at redline and winding up the ridiculously long gears to fuel cutoff is just magical. Also the PCCB brakes on the 997.1 GT3 feel far superior to my 992 GT3 PCCB brakes. There are few automotive bliss feelings better then redlining a GT3 of any generation. But having owned 996, 997 and 992, and having driven a 991, I can say with fact that the 997.1 still feels the most magical of them all.

So if you own a 997 GT3..... don't sell the damn car. It really is the ultimate 911.

Next year I will report back after my full Dundon D4 power pack install

Thanks for the review. No matter what gen GT3 someone has, they're pretty lucky. For my purposes (weekend driving only) the 997 GT3 suits my needs well. Personally think the 997 is a great design. I'd be fine with either .1 or .2 (so things like stability control on the .2 aren't an advantage or disadvantage for me). Just enough tech and safety in it.

That's awesome. I think the 00's are the golden era of drivers cars.Enough performance to be thrilling but not enough technology to water it down.

Dundon's website isn't very clear on the D4 package. With the intake, header, and tune what do you actually gain for $20,000?

I can't name another NA engine that would gain 70whp from intake mani, headers and a tune. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong... then have to do it. 70 more hp in a 997 would be epic.

Hah, that was a good one. For a second I thought that's where the reply would end and part of me wouldn't be surprised if that's what you got 70 wheel is a lot though, so that's not bad. That's like, 20%-25% more power. NOW the question is; how safe is that on a stock block with stock internals on an engine already running pretty hard. Sharkwerks is making a little more, but that's bored out to 4.1 and has new pistons, robs, crank, etc.

Anyone ever done a side-by-side?

I just thought it was too good to be true for a non FI car to make that power with bolt ons, so hard to justify spending that type of coin.

Agree with everything you said except for the "how they look and handle" part. To me, the 997 is a timeless design. The 992 is a porker. The handling, while objectively better on the 992, feels more connected and go-cart like on the 997. Maybe not everyone likes that. But I agree with your overall analysis. The 997 is the keeper.

I 10000% couldn't disagree more. And I love my 997 so so much. It's the best of them all! I drove them side by side for an entire day prior to this thread, both have brand new tires also.

But man the 992 is just stunning inside and out, or at least my options/spec and in my opinion.

And handling. The front end grip and steering feel I think is leagues ahead.
