On my 997.1RS, i added:
Guard LSD
4.0L clutch and flywheel
3.89 R&P
996 GT3 cup shifter cables.
the car is always in the “attack” zone in regards to gearing. Great on track. Aggressive on street. Perhaps not great for fuel economy. But the car drives more like a hot rod as opposed to showroom stock.

Correct. I was referring to the fact that the 3.89 gearing is perfect for the street car and the fact that you retain OEM RS originality which in my opinion bodes better from a resale value standpoint. Hence why I feel doing the RS 6th is also a good idea as you end up with an OEM correct RS gearbox.
I fully support what you guys are doing. It’s a good solution to what you folks want out of your cars.

Either the exchange rate is less favorable or RosePassion/Porsche raised their price on the R&P, it's listed at ~$4400ish now. I think you can find them cheaper in the US atm. Probably thanks to the run on them caused by this thread

my apologies. For years, more than a decade, people on this board have repeated the myth that the 4.00 is weak, that it wears out prematurely, etc. I’ve sold (manufactured 100 myself with Ricardo) hundreds of them, and continue to sell Porsche’s. I’ve never seen what I consider a premature failure that has anything to do with it not hunting, or the other explanations offered over the years.
I fully support what you guys are doing. It’s a good solution to what you folks want out of your cars.

If I'm not mistaken, the stock 7.1RS pressure plate is NLA, replaced by the 4.0 bolted pressure plate. The 11lb 7.1RS LWFW is available but why use it if the 9 lb 4.0 LWFW is available? I did the full 4.0 package and have zero complaints.

I strongly disagree with this. The idea that the 4.00 is somehow inferior has lingered, but Porsche used it on the factory race cars for 15 years. I’ve sold literally hundreds of 4.00s and never had someone come back and complain it wore out prematurely. The idea that it doesn’t hunt and wears out more quickly is just rubbish.

Asking because I have a 7.1RS now with 15k miles, so clutch and flywheel are in great shape. Upgrading R+P, so if there’s not a meaningful / noticeable improvement with the 4.0 clutch and flywheel, it doesn’t make sense to spend that money on it.

The 7.1RS pressure plate was riveted and there were numerous documented failures. The 4.0 pressure plate was bolted for greater burst resistance. Some say the 4.0 plate feels lighter/smoother. With that said, if the gearbox was coming out, I would not hesitate to swap in a new 4.0 clutch especially if the car sees track duty.

I can't speak for the difference in wear (or lack thereof) with the Cup 4.0 R&P compared to the RS 3.89 R&P. These cars are getting more and more valuable and using OEM period correct RS parts will help in maintaining or helping resale value longterm vs. using the Motorsport bits. Just my take on it for what it's worth, which usually isn't much...
