Full Leather Modification
Was exploring changing my 997.2 3RS to a full leather car. I'm sure someone has done this. I checked with Suncoast to get the cost to do OEM parts and as expected it was quite a lot. I'd love to hear any experiences of people who have tackled this job, and any recommendations of aftermarket companies that do this kind of work that you trust their quality. Thanks!

I've hasd both the base interior and now full leather. There was something about the base interior that was endearing and if I was getting another car, full leather wouldn't have to be a requirement.

one option is to go find the pieces on eBay in plastic, they are the same for any 997 generation send those to someone like exclusive option or any quality interior trim fitter and they will match the oem look for much much less than from porsche

In contrast, other than a few scattered scuffs, all the leather has held up very well to the age and heat.

My car was a lifelong Florida car and after having seen how poorly the soft touch plastics from this era age if I ever bought another 997 it would have to have full leather again I think. I just about had to replace or heavily work on every exposed piece of soft touch on my car since the originals became either gummy or looked like Wolverine was the prior owner. Inner door sills, outer door sills, light switch and key bezels, seatbelt adjuster covers, the plastic behind the door switches, the seatbelt collars, and a few other things.

Yeah, total nightmare. Granted most cars aren't roasting in Florida so my case was probably worse than most GT3s at least, but it's a fairly common complaint over on the normal 997 subforum since those cars see more use. My 991 had 10k more miles than my GT3 and the plastics held up great for the most part so they may have used a different process on newer cars.

Agreed. The base interior feels more "on brand" for the GT3 / GT3 RS. If I wanted a luxurious car I would have gotten a Turbo.

I just bought a real stripper of a GT3 RS that has the base everything including vinyl dash. My immediate instinct was to get exclusive option to make me a bunch of leather dash/door card/etc parts because my other modern 911s (992 C2S and 991.2 GT3 Touring) have full leather with nice deviated stitching, but I’m coming around to the idea of maybe leaving it alone. After all my 993 has a vinyl dash and sometimes I wish it had full leather (really rare option back then for non-turbos) but 99% of the time it is just fine.

Something about the base, in me old car, that appeals to me more than the busy interior that I've got going on right now. 40k miles on that interior.
