170 2008 GT3 RS coming
Well those of you that wagered on the 2008 RS seem to be correct. A very well placed individual has leaked that 170 RS 2008 cars will be built. Apparently some king of very selective process will put PCNA in charge of who gets the cars. They have heard enough complaining from "real" enthusiasts who were unable to get a car that they will deal direct with the customer. Cars will be delivered through dealers but dealers will not be able to order the cars for inventory.
I JUST CANCELED MY JULY 17th BUILD!!!! WHEN WILL PORSCHE EVER LEARN.

Still plays with cars.

Why cancel? Given the demand, and the fact that many of the people who cannot get an allocation ARE favored clients, the decision to build a few more makes sense. It will also hurt the speculators which is a good thing in my book.

Not surprised at all about the additional cars. Why would Porsche want to leave money on the table if there are willing buyers out there? In fact, I'd be surprised if they didn't make more than an additional 170 cars.
Jon, why the cancellation on the GT3 RS?

Someone should start an essay contest:
I bought a 997 GT3 or GT3RS because?
or
I got mine and why I don't want anyone else to have one?
Could be set up as a lottery. Entry fee is $100.00 and a minimum numbers of entries is 1,500. The winner gets the car of his/her choice with the excess going to a worthy cause. Something like: Counseling for 997/GT2/GT3 Forum Members.
If that doesn't work, Valium in the Kool-Aid.

Porsche is not your investment manager however they should be part of your entertainment budget whether its a Boxter, RS or CGT!

Seriously from a business standpoint concerning profitability to the company it is the right move. As far as the customer...well it is no surprise.

Why be upset about additional cars being made?
Why does one buy a GT3 RS? In my idealized world it would be someone who wants a great car and wants to drive it. If other people fortunate enough to afford one buy it so be it.
Or is it bought for some sort of "statement" purpose? Trying to say "I am unique and awesome nobody can be like me", eh?
An investment? It's a car! It is meant to be driven on the road and in the case of the GT3RS on the track, too. It's like a fancy suit. You wear it, it eventually gets worn out. Does anyone buy a fancy suit to sell it later?
I don't think Porsche should build so many cars that they need to discount them when new. But people who truly want one and can afford one should be able to get one from the dealer at MSRP. Not from some sleazeball reseller who is nothing more than a scalper.
With the CGT they did build too many. Dealers had trouble selling them.
Why not make it a build to order process? No dealer ordered cars just cars with a firm customer with a solid deposit. There are too many heavily optioned GT3s on dealer lots already. Who the hell needs NAV, deviated stitching, leather surrounded cabin light, etc, etc. junk in a GT3. The guys who are supposed to be the target GT3 market can wait for the car for several months. Spoiled kids of Saudi princes can get other cars off the lot.
