HAD AN 03 996 TURBO, USED ONLY MOBIL 1 0W40 - 70,000 MILES - NEVER LEAKED. HAVE 07 TURBO ON EXCLUSIVE MOBIL 1 0W40 WITH 22,000 MILES - NO LEAKS. I HOPE MY 2010 GT3.2 DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

Mine too - Porsche just approved the repair of my seal. Another, heavily modified GT3 at the same dealer with the same problem was not so lucky. Porsche denied the repair under warranty due to the mods.

There is another thread on the 997 GT2/GT3 forum, where Porsche (Andreas Preuninger) is quoted as saying that one cause of the RMS leaks is a faulty vacuum system and that dealers supposedly were told to check this out.

My dealer hadn't heard of this yet, but was willing to take a look today. Turns out that there is plenty of pressure running through my engine (see pic of gauge). [Engine speed was 771.5 1/min, engine temp 87.8 C, and engine oil temp 84.8 C] Also, my dealer confirmed that if there indeed were a faulty vacuum, they would expect to see a fault or a check engine light on (neither present here). My car still leaks, so I ain't buying the explanation.

This is what we have to do is disprove the basis for denials based on Mods. lets compare pressures with modified and stock. Because by car leaked before I modified it so how does that mesh.

If exhaust mods. ie;Sharkwerks, GMG, etc., are the cause as Porsche now claims, then
why is this not happening to the CUP cars that have a complete race exhaust ?

Thought about that too -- the reading was taken at the manifold, but I would think vacuum is vacuum, i.e., should be same pressure in case as in manifold? FWIW, I am not going to do anything at the moment until Porsche announces a new fix -- the small leak continues . . . .

Hi,
Why GT cars don't use the TT RMS?
Aren't they all use the same block? The IMS on GT is the same as TT, why not the RMS?
WHY? WHY?!!!

i am checking with some GT3 Cup and Carrera Cup cars 2007, 2008 teams to understand if those beasts powered at 440~465hp experience the same dilemna. would be incredible to have Porsche on 24H events, their leading branding image, to have GT3/rs blowing up engines caused by RMS.
If Cup cars have no leak, then they might have found the fix some time ago, but definitely won't tell, to avoid tarnishing the "high reliability & performances" which have made the success of Porsche. In addition, beyond minor financial cost inccured (5000 cars x 1000 USD = 5 M$ max well covered by the B$ profit made in 2008 with VW speculations), they will likely bet on making a few hundred owners unhappy, rather than scaring away the ten of thousands of existing or future clients, pushing them to decide between Porsche and the less reliable Ferrari or Aston.....they have defeated on Reliabilty.
What about that ?
The modifs excuse just built a layer of delay for a fix, waiting 2010 when all 2007/08 models owners will have their warranty fully expired...!

My '08 GT3 has had the Sharkwerks exhaust since new. The RMS started leaking very slightly at about 1280 miles then stopped completly for over a year. Now ay 5700 miles it only leaks a tiny bit after sitting for 15 - 25 days. I am not going to worry about it anymore.

Update on the above. I just had the annual oil change at 5800 miles and now it leaks much worse than before. I wonder...is ther any connection between the oil change (P Dealer) and the increased leakage. Oil level seems ok. Any ideas out there?

New oil is clean. Old oil has dirt, etc in it. So it may be thicker. Hence, leak less. Don't know.
