Come on, the MK II is a better car. It even looks like Porsche did listen to guys like us bitching how the sunroof on a GT3 is a stupid idea. If you already have a GT3 then you don't need to worry. You already have an awesome car and moving to the 997.2 is not essential.

If I didn't have my 996 GT3 I'd be really drooling over the 997.2 or even the RS. It's an awesome car and deserves the GT3 badge. I don't see the need to denigrate the new car to justify staying with my current one. But I am looking forward to pass them on the track

thanks for the psychology analysis... if it were not for you, I wouldn't know why I want to puke whenever I hear you guys whining and bitching about wanting the "latest and greatest"....if you want it...buy it. I don't need to justify anything.

I don't want it and won't buy it....I liked the 997.1 so much I bought both....not happening with the .2 thus far or I would have 5 in my garage instead of just 3

OK, I have to chime in since I ordered a MKII. The MK1 is a beautiful car, no doubt, but from my perspective, coming from an 08 C2S, the MKII looks better. IMHO it looks cleaner, certainly less busy, from the front, and over all more purposeful and functional. Objective performance number validate that functionality. I think the new rear spoiler is an improvement as well. The differences are subtle to the casual observer, but the sum of the new parts add up to a more visually compelling package as far as I'm concerned.

On balance, I'd prefer matching real time driving impressions of those owning/having owned both over aesthetics as beauty is always and rightfully in the eye of the beholder ..

The MKI looks cleaner and more aggressive. Aesthetically I prefer it over the MKII which is also a stunning car. The added displacement, suspension bits etc make the MKII a better performer. I don't drive well enough to take full advantage of either car. Bottomline, both cars look and perform great. I'm just glad I got my hands on one of the two.

My perspective as a relatively young man who has dreamed of owning a 7.1 GT3 since they were released has not changed. It is still my dream car, and I'm finally to the point where I see myself owning one in the not to distant future. The 7.2 GT3 is awesome in both aesthetics and capabilities, but its out of my price range now.

I'm sure there are a lot of guys here that need the newest and the best, and they're fortunate to have such dilemmas. However, when I finally get my 7.1 I know I won't have any regrets when a 7.2 pulls along side of me. As 'amaist' stated in a previous post, "I'm looking forward to passing them on the track".

I am on my second RS and I had a 997GT3. I loved them and I plan on getting the 7.2GT3 ASAP...i was sold after watching the high speed run at Goodwood.

As an outsider here it seems to me that those with the .1 like it better because that is what they have.

If you want the best of the best and especially track your GT3 a lot how can you deny the new .2? To me the new front bumper looks better and smoother and I love the rear end with the open areas to let heat out and the wings looks better and performs better.

Now this is not to say the .1 is an outstanding looking car and a wonderful performer on the track...I know I've given a lot of them a point bye.

Agree. The MK1 is just better looking. But the MKII GT3RS is awesome looking.

As for a future GT3 owner like me, there is nothing that I like the gen 1 better than the gen 2 if I'm buying now, except that the gen 1 as pre-owned is quite a bit cheaper. If they both cost the same, there is no way that I will buy a gen 1 over a gen 2. Absolutely no way.
Absolutely spot on.... to me I have the perfect GT3 already in the garage and could never justify trading for the Mk2.

Having said that I am sure that if I had no GT3 right now and had the funds I may look to the newer one simply because it is essentially supposed to be a better car.

brilliant, money well spent.

I personally did both, but I'm not the smartest with my money.

My situation is that I wanted the Euro Delivery package

I agree with most that the GT3.1 is a better looking car than the .2 version. However, the new RS looks the best of em all, especially with that cup style rear wing.

I don't mind the rear of the new car, and actually like the tail lamps! Don't care for the new nose cap, though. If I could justify the 40K I would buy the new car in a moment, but frankly I don't get in enough track days currently and the 3.1 is more than enough car for me at any time! I'll keep mine for the time being, which if you think about it is the perfect strategy for Porsche!

LOL - of you ask my wife we're all a bunch of bumbling goofballs. She hasn't been able to tell the difference between the "new" 911s and the older ones since 1998.

Nice example of Mk1 for those that prefer it over Mk2:
