I think that the battery from Voltphreaks is "only" $1299 or $1699 for their biggest one, which still is only 7.5 lbs, so actually a bargain compared to the Porsche battery. I have no idea how reliable they are, and since my battery has not yet died, I've not looked for an excuse to try one.

Can this be charged using the Porsche battery maintainer like the regular battery? Will it hold its charge for a shorter period of time between charges compared to regular battery? The RS will have periods of time in storage especially during winter months.

Here's an Optima 34R retrofit.

Of course the Optima won't be as light as the "optional" Lithium Ion, but it is lighter than factory Moll.

Optima works well is cold weather. Spiral cell technology is an excellent option to the conventional "flat plate" lead acid battery. No worries about acid leakage in the battery compartment with an Optima.

*Note the added wiring for trickle charger to maintain optimal 12.65 volts for extended service life.

+1, This is one reason why I didn't order it.

Another reason is its claimed unreliability in close to freezing temperature.

i dont know... i like the largest heaviest battery for the car, within reason.
if one of my cars fails to crank up.... it will be towed out of my garage and sold.

if you are racing. sure.
if you are not racing, then just lose 30 lbs.

I think this item is in the same bag as the no-cost optional halogen lights. As a way to start a car or light up the street, they suck in all directions, except one, and that is the fabulous weight saving.

The lightest RS would be: PCCB (minus 20 kg), delete clubsport (minus cca. 15 kg for roll cage and minus 5 kg for extinguisher), halogen lights (minus cca. 5 kg), li-ion batter (minus 10 kg), delete radio (minus cca. 2 kg), delete A/C (minus cca. 20 kg). I am guessing on the lights and roll cage.

The resulting weight saving that is possible through the factory options, many of them cost-free, is a very amazing 70 -80 kg, which is the weight of the regular driver!

The car would have a realistic kerb weight of 1320 kg because we have established before that the actual weight is about 40 or 50 kg above the official weight.

The speakers would be deleted also right - I hope they don't leave speakers in there when you delete radio. How much do the standard speakers weigh?

That type of thinking will kill the aftermarket for clear hoods and battery covers to show off the cool batteries!

Have used the larger PC925 battery in Porsche street and race cars for years. Very few issues. Yes it weighs 22 lbs instead of the 11 lb for the PC680, but you do not have the issues with going dead like you do with the smaller ones....

It is a replacement you're stuck. But I think the factory one is more depndable than the stock battery.

I did not order it, but I am on a diet.
