Default Gulf blue alternative

Meissen blue was a real Porsche color... close enough? Maybe P-T-S?

i think it's too light and would make new RS looked PMS bloated.

... that's the trouble with P-T-S. You may get an unpleasant surprise! I'm not sure about even the real Gulf blue on the RS w/o the orange accents. It did look decent on the Carrera GT, however. It's that wing treatment on the RS... very "industrial" in appearance.

riviera blue is what you really would want on your RS. Gulf blue is a little pale perhaps anyhow?

what color blue does jerry seinfeld alway PTS?

by the way, anybody ever notice the P-cars Jerry drives on HBO's "curb your enthusiasm"?

I'm not digging that Gulf Turbo, it's too light. Taste is subjective of course.
Mexico, Riviera and or Maritime are what you want on a RS, assuming you can PTS a RS?
Mexico and Riviera look better with dark wheels, Maritime with silver.

FYI Pioneer in San Diego has a Maritime GT3 incoming.

I just talked with my dealer and they want 20K non refundable deposit for PTS , just incase you get a surprise......

I am going with Signal Green and they want 20K...

I have seen a 08 GT3RS in Signal Green and it rocked .

Dertub , does the green get old ?

As a guy into blue cars, I have to say that the factory did me a favor to turn down my order for a Gulf Blue 997. It's too light for that body style, IMO. I don't even care for the GT in Gulf Blue.

Any dealer who asks for $20K deposit is gouging you. My deposit on my Carrera in Blue Turquoise was the standard $1000. Meissen Blue will probably be turned down. Too light.

20K is high, but it is not like I won't take the car! So who cares.....
I am just glad I have a RS at MSRP!

Default Careful on what you call 'Signal Green'

Friz: Just a note to clarify a point on the popular 'green' colors. I don't believe that an '07/'08 RS came in what Porsche calls 'Signal Green'. The green color of the RS is something akin to 'Viper Green' and Porsche might refer to it as 'RS Green', just as the Orange found in the Renn Sport gt3 might be called 'RS Orange'. In the enclosed photo, you will see a '07 911S (gt3 rear wind added) special ordered (PTS) in what Porsche calls 'Signal Green' (which is an early 911 color circa 1970) parked next to a 'RS Green' '07 997.1 gt3 RS at an R Gruppe event. Both of these cars I know well and were owned at the time by Porsche acquaintances of mine (the RS has since been sold). You can see the strong differences between Signal Green (more yellow in the mix) and the 'Green RS' used by Porsche in their '07/'08 RS (more blue in the mix). Some people claim that 'RS Green' is similar to 'Viper' from early 911s, but I still think there is a difference in hues. Personally, I find 'Signal Green' (with more yellow in the mix) to be a richer and more attractive color in person than either 'RS Green' or 'Viper'. And it photographs much better than 'RS Green' for sure. So any of you wanting to PTS a gt3 or RS in a shade of green, make sure you choose wisely since the factory's idea of 'Signal Green' might not be what you think. Good luck on your PTS experience. That is the way to go. Regards, z356

Superb post. Choosing the correct paint-to-sample color is challenging enough from an aesthetic/personal preference perspective alone. Add in the range of choices available within a color such as green or blue, as well as the often erroneous nomenclature used to describe them, the probability of getting what one is expecting goes down logarithmically. Why don't they use pantone numbers to specify the colors to standardize the process?

Going back to the original question posed by dertub, Mexico blue would be my first choice, Riviera blue my second.
