My 430 got 3rd at Nationals last year in SSM, with one of the drivers. I coned my best each day and threw away my chances for podium in ASP. The SSM result was the benefit of the 430 being so good in the rain. I got a Cayman S last year to build a 3.8X51 AutoX car, I gave up once the cost of the project exceeded $100k. Sold the upgrade parts before even adding them to the car. Car is for sale right now, to open space to my next autoX/track thingy. |

There is a silver X51 cayman here in San Diego. 7GT3 nose, amazing car, MOM built. I thought the swap was "relatively" straight forward.

For my project, I included my paid price for a 2007 Cayman S ($42k), 3.8X51 swap including engine/headers/exhaust/ecu remap ($30k), Guard LSD, monoballs, Carbon seats, Carbon Trunk with glass, radio delete, a/c delete, 9"/11" Mg wheels, Moton suspension, PCCB, TechArt Wing, etc. A Cayman needs a 2,600 lbs race weight and 380rwhp to be competitive in SSM at National level, in XP not a chance. At the local PCA events, we have put my bone stock Cayman S 3rd fastest overall, so it is a different competition level. This same car and drivers at a National level SCCA event came almost in last place. |

That sounds like it would have been one serious cayman, too bad. |

Didn't know you could fit 11s in the back of a cayman, especially with after-market shocks.

Even better, you can run the GT3 Cup Michelin slicks with the stock electronics (asb, psm, pasm, etc).

just wait until the 986 LS1 swap kit comes out. You will have Cup car power for pennies, and it should weigh less and reduce the offset weight off the longitudinal axis of the car. Replacement motors will be less than $1k though the motors are nearly indestructible anyway

I prefer the flat-6. If I want a V8 Boxster, I would get a F430 Spider. If I want a V8 Cayman, I would get a F430, especially at their current prices. |

njgt refers to the current depressed price of 430 and scuderia.

![]() The approximate cost to stuff an LS1 motor into anything should be less than $10k including the cost of the motor. A run of the mill 5.3l truck engine costs about $500 for a complete pull-out from a wrecking yard. There are certain years and VIN codes which signify the all-aluminum version which will be the lighter (80#) than the iron block version. The truck heads flow as good if not better than an LS1 head stock, and by switching out the intake manifold and cam to a LS1/LS2/LS6 grind will provide anywhere from 330-400 rwhp with longtubes and free-flowing exhaust. The 430 comparison is not even close to the minimal investment required to do this project. An entire subcommunity of LS1 swappers is out there and they successfully transplant these motors into street rods for a total investment of $<2k including the motor. There are companies that sell complete stand alone wiring harnesses and relays to make the LS1 run on a stand and then plug into just about any car for $750. http://www.gentechls.com/engines/index.html The key is once you build one of these, any engine failure will likely mean replacement costs of less than $1k in materials. Think about that - a 400rwhp minicup car with >300 ftlbs of tq from 2000-6000 rpms. No 40-50 hour $40k motorsports rebuild. Just pull it, go to the junkyard with $500, swap over your cam, heads, and intake and you are done. You could keep a backup motor for the cost of Gt3 2-3 chin spoilers.

Here you go. A RL'er is parting out his '04 GT3. (not me) Asking $25k for engine package with ecu and wiring harness. It does look a little more expensive than a Chevy motor. Sounds better than a Chevy though. Great opportunity for that GT3 powered boxster! This would be awesome. Phil |

1999 Boxster are easy find under $10k. Sell engine for $3k to the SpecBox guys, add $10k for GMV8. $17k Fitting a 2008 Z06 dry sump should be even better. Boxster 7.0, these engines are affordable. |
