Humm... as far as I remember it correctly, price of this McLaren will be half of F458's cost. Awesome youtube vid. Thanks for posting. Now two F1 champions are working for McLaren, they gonna mass produce their road cars. Sweet!

My thoughts are, how reliable do you really think a totally new car from any manufacture be, let alone McLaren? While it may be a finely designed and engineered car, it will take years to get the engineering and manufacturing bugs under control. Did any of you see the You-Tube of the McLaren from San Francisco burning?

Sounds like an awesome car! (looks are always secondary to me).
However, it has a tough challenge against the 458 Italia.
I seriously doubt the US$191K base price. From what I have seen the base price is UK$ 175K which traditionally converts to 30% more in US$ (not the FX conversion given that taxes are higher in the UK and US base cars come generally with a few optional items included: For example the GT3 RS is UK$104K vs US$132K)
Therefore the US$ price should be more in $230K range, right there with the 458...
At the end of the day, its a streetcar primarily so usability and reliability plus service network are key for me (#1 reason to choose a GT2 over Lambos or F430...)

I don't think the 458 Italia looks all that great...we will have to see it in person. I think this car looks enough like a cross between the 458 and a Gallardo that if you like "that" look this car should appeal.
As for cost I bet when it hits the market it will be priced slightly ABOVE the 458...and they will sell EVERY SINGLE ONE THEY CAN BUILD!
I would also say Ferrari has as storied a racing history as Porsche and Lotus for sure and build cars that are VERY track focused...well, A CAR that is... the Scud. They will build a 458 version of that car too in the long run.
Regardless this car is going to be AWESOME!

Just kidding James. I bet $1.00 that your jaw will drop when you see the 458 in person
2nd Edit:
So will this new car join this league?

I love it's technology though, and everything else about it.. But i'm still longing for a Carrera GT, and this car and video hardly made me question that!

Mous3, I hope you are right... I thought the 458 was pretty hot looking when I first saw it but the more I study it and see it (in pics anyway) from other angles I am less impressed. Personally my 2 fav recent F-cars are the 360 and the 456, at least from a looks stand point. Performance-wise probably the 599 but I sure did like driving the Scud! That car shifts RIGHT NOW! I don't think the new PDK from Porsche is far off though...and that was in a Panamera S!
Back to the McLaren, I am a HUGE fan boy of the original and the brand in general. I don't think any car will surpass the F1 in my estimation. The car is just perfect...though I have never even seen one live and in person so it is all based on pics and video. Certainly the SLR McLaren is pretty sad...the prototype looked pretty good (saw it at Indy close up) but the production car had to long a nose and gills were to much. The interior is VERY TIGHT TOO! Shockingly so considering the outer dimensions of that beast. It IS FAST though...I'll give it that! The one I drove had aftermarket wheels/tires on it and was behaving VERY BADLY at the time, so I can't give an honest impression of its driving characteristics, other than that it was FAST!
Back to the F1 again...I even bought the hand bound leather edition of Driving Ambition...that is how big a fan of the F1 I am.
That said, the new car is certainly no F1, but it will be a HELL OF A CAR for the price. I'd take it over any F-car offering hands down!
YMMV!

How about this for engine technology? A twin turbo V8 that revs to 8500 RPM. Wow.

I've been registered with Mclaren for a while now. I've received two follow up phone calls from Mclaren to ask if I have any questions and it's been indicated that the price of the car will be between £125k - £175k. If it comes in at less than the price of a GT2 then it's a no brainer and I'm asking for my deposit back for the 458. From my conversations I have felt that this is intended as more of an enthusiast's car for the road and track than say a Ferrari/Lamborghini. If that's the case, it's going to build up quite a following. I'm looking forward to it.
