I wonder how the factory's gonna position this car vis-a-vis the current series racing cars? Run it in LMP1/2 in place of the RS Spyder? I can't imagine 911s going away from the GT2/3 series anytime soon. But the specs we're seeing will make Porsche a very serious competitor where the 911s have fallen short in recent years... Exciting!

Wow, nice video, nice car.
The whole green intelligent performance / marketing thing is going hyper (Hybrid) drive.
Very cool, just not something I'd want to own< I hope it is just to win races, not te sell to weekend amateurs.
The lucky ones better hang on to CGT's. You complain about the clutch replacement now....
Could the next GT3 really be a hybrid?

As an owner of a 2010 GT3 I have been wondering the same thing about the next GT3 and RS. Could they further differentiate the RS by taking out the passenger seat and putting in the flywheel, or would the flywheel fit in the front luggage compartment? Or will both Gt3 and RS both be hybrid?? I guess it is certainly seeming more possible every day.

Very cool, a new race car from Porsche, I like companies that did not forget about the root of racing. I wish Porsche the best racing the 918 RSR, win some races, and write a page in the motorsport history book like the predecessor 917.
Yeah!
P.S. Okay, it is s KERS Hybrid, I guess I can live with that

If we can't have a rollcage in the RS in the USA because of safety concerns, there is no way in hell we're going to have a large mass spinning at high speed in place of a passenger seat.

Porsche built a Ford GT. To win Le Mans. Exciting.

..Porsche Motorsport, which is eying a full-fledged, factory-backed return to the famed Le Mans 24-hour race in 2012, according to new Porsche chairman, Mathias Mueller.
I am booking a hotel room already.

I think you can clearly see how the Cup car was adapted as their first foray into KERS for Le Mans. I'm sure they were not too happy when the GT3 Hybrid spat the dummy with just a few miles to go. But little doubt the 918 Hybrid will bring home the bacon. I wouldn't be surprised to see them run three cars with three configurations (deep mechanical, electronic and programming differences, not superficial differences) just to make damn sure they take the victory and you can bet any contingent from Audi or other VW concerns will be on notice.
I wonder if they've given budget for Porsche Motorsport to build new race engines around this V8 and if those programs displace flat engine development.
Someone at Porsche thinks they should be racing things like the RS Spyder and that's fine by me. I'd love to see Porsche take another shot at F1, too. But there's a shadow of concern here that suggests Porsche is set to race mid-engine V8's and relegate the flat 6 (and flat 8?) rear engine car to some sort of "legacy" existence. That would be the end of Porsche.
Overzealous attention to the "halo" cars (like the 918) should not overshadow the real and only flagship of the company is the 911.
