No contest.
These are completely different cars and don't even belong in the same sentence. Maybe that's what Clarkson was trying to say.

imho, the atom is not a very focussed trackcar at all. by all accounts, it's more than a handful. anybody searching for this type of experience is a thousand times better off looking at a radical, lotus 2- eleven, or the all-new caterham that is coming out soon.

Anecdotally I just haven't seen an Atom complete a whole day's track events. Ever. Owner starts the day with everybody else, misses the first two sessions coz the mechanics have to fidget with the car. He finally makes it out of the pitlane and does one and maybe another half session before something INVARIABLY breaks down, gearbox, engines and what not...
Statistically I think my hometrack has seen more Atoms pushed back into the pitlane than Atoms coming in on their own power

According to the reviews, the pricing of the V8 will be $150 - 200k.
I think that the atom concept is a real hoot for $40 - 60k but for at $150 - 200k, there are a lot of cars I'd rather have ......... even if they are not as quick as the Atom !

A Radical will have similar issues like the need to good track support but at least it's a better car to drive fast and is a bit more reliable if you don't mess with the motor. It's just that I haven't seen many Radicals where the owner doesn't mess with the motor. They are handy in the paddock if you want to show your guests how the inside of an engine looks like.
The Atom is delivered with tires too damn skinny for anything other than parking lot donuts. Once real rubber is installed it goes well. Then the increased lateral loads break it into pieces.
