Here you go. I pursued a stupid-low price for a local GT3 (not many local ones so I thought why not). This is the email exchange between myself and the seller (email addresses deleted to protect the innocent!). And no, I never did send money...

Hello Mike,
Please give me a little time to explain you the process of this transaction,
As I told you in my first email, i got a new job and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with PayPal so my presence isn't necessary. The car is located in Omaha at the shipping company, ready to be delivered. The car will arrive at your address in 3-5 working days. The shipping cost is included in the total price of the car! You will have 5 days to test it and inspect the car prior to make any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don't like about it you can send it back on my cost. So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:
full name and address
phone #
After I will have all this details I will forward them to PayPal and I will proceed this transaction. PayPal will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.
Regards!!

Hello Amber,

Thanks for your email. I guess I am a bit confused. The listing mentioned a 35-year PCA member – you are not that person?

I don’t mean to pry into your personal life, so let me just ask about a few details:

Is this a one-owner car, and do you have some idea for how it was used over its mileage?
Do you have service records or can you refer me to the servicing dealer?
Has it ever been damaged, had paint work, or been in any kind of accident?
Can you send me the VIN number (would be on the title and also in the lower corner of the dashboard)
Where and when can I see it?

Would you agree to a pre-purchase inspection (this is where I take the car at my expense to a service facility where they do a series of inspections to give me a feel for the condition of the vehicle)? I would typically put a deposit on the car to secure the purchase, and then arrange for the inspection. As long as the inspection result is positive, then I would complete the purchase.

Best Regards,

Mike

Hello Mike,

I appreciate your interest in buying my car. The porsche is in perfect shape, never been smoked in, without scratches nor dents, and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents. I legally own a clear title, free of any liens or loans, under my name. It has 33,000 miles, for sale at $47,670. The price is below the market as I recently divorced and I don't own a driver's license, therefore I don't need it, so I'm trying to sell it as soon as possible. If you have any other questions, or need more info, please feel free to ask.

Good Luck Mooty!

My guess is they rarely receive full amounts of cash, rather Deposits.. You get someone excited about a car they may send $500 to "Hold it". There are a ton of idiots out there and they too buy cars. Get 1 a day for $500 and you're doing OK..

The funny thing is all their stories are similar. I love the BS I receive from ppl when trying to sell something on Craigslist.
