Just got a 4.0

Sweet! Congrats.
1. Warm the engine thoroughly (!)
2. Enjoy
3. Rinse, repeat.
All my cars are broken in at the track if at all possible. Don't use oil, run strong with never a problem. It's a dang race motor, yes?

I can vouch to that! I had the pleasure to ride along with Pete at Fernly in his 4.0 and witnessed him do some serious damage to the MPSC'S with only 170 miles on the car may have been the highlight of the year for me, or at least a close second behind Rennsport union.

Beautiful car! Really digging the black wheels! Break in how you would like to. The engine itself is broken in within the first 100 miles. The 800 mile limit is kind of like going out with the girl that won't sleep with you until the 8th date. If you last that long then you have to get a feel or test her out in some form or another. I wouldn't go abusing it from every redlight but it will be okay to get a couple of feels of her before the 800 mile limit.

Sigh.. now I am jonesing for some track-crack with none to be had until spring.

Just ship it.
It can be here before Winterfest, I think there's still room, but 48hours is sold out but plenty of events before the snow thaws out. You can visit 24hours at Daytona, hang out with one of the teams, I thing Randy's working in the pit with Orbit anyay.
Call Intercity now, tape Amex to the dashboard and we will take care of the rest.
Airport to fly into is PBI.
Shipping address is:
7221 Haverhill Business Parkway #102
Riviera Beach FL 33407

Re running in, I was able to ask Andreas Preuninger that very question at the 4.0 litre launch in the UK. His answer was that the best approach was as many have said - vary engine speed and load for first several hundred miles, up the rev limit by 500 revs every hundred miles (say 4,000 for first 100, then 4,500 at 200 and so on). After around 1,000 miles, give it the full berries (not his word ). He noted that you are also breaking in the tyres (first 100 miles), brakes and gearbox; hence the importance of not just sticking the car on the motorway for 1,000 miles.
He also talked about the dyno tests they run on the cars. At 10,000 miles, with the 3.8 engines they were getting 10hp above the quoted figure; he reckons the 4.0 litre will be above 510hp by the time it is properly loosened up.
Cheers

Great answer on breaking the car in. That is very similar to the process of breaking in a race motor so it is ready to go when it gets in the car.

You guys are killin' me. I have decided to only do cars and coffee going forward. And I just ordered Sport Chrono add-on from Suncoast. And adaptive seats.
Seriously, put up some posts so I can live the Florida life vicariously.
