Just got a 4.0
Hello, all.
Just wanted to introduce myself. I got this car last week and have really enjoyed it thus far.
Since this is my first GT car, I was wondering if you guys adhere to the recommended 2,000 mi under 4,200 rpm break-in period for this type of car. I have done it with my other Porsches, but know that I am now dealing with a diffrent type of animal. Is it a good idea? Necessary?
Thanks in advance.

I did, but RoW doesn't have to as I'm sure you are aware. My buddy has a .2 RS(3.8). He adhered for the first 1000, then let her rip.
Congrats on a BEAUTIFUL car. Love the wheels, brakes, all.
Invisible fence, that rocks!!!

Nice, congratulations on your 4.0
I drove my car the first 1000 miles varying speeds as much as possible, not over 4000RPM for the first hunderd miles, then not over 6000RPM tfor the first 1000 miles. Don't lug the engine, shift a lot and let the car warm up before you rev it.
After 1000 miles I took it to the track, short shifted at 7000 / 7500RPM for the first weekend. After that I changed all oil and I concidered it fully broken in.

If I remember correctly, we bought our current RS in November 2010, and put ~800 miles on the car as an "under 4200 rpm break-in period" (then changed oil/filter, etc). Drove as Peter suggests above.
Early January 2011 we loaded it on to the trailer and hauled it to Sebring for 4 days at Winterfest. We added ~450 track miles during that period. It was definitely broken in by the time we returned. No problems before or since. YMMV

Thanks, all.
I am really impressed with this car. I don't think I will be able to wait until 2,000 mi. 800 should be enough, as suggested above. Fortunately we are having decent weather here, so I will be able to put a few more miles on her before the white stuff starts falling. Already looking forward to Spring.
