Thx. Just got off the phone with Porsche service. He said exactly what you just wrote.
The hood had been open all night too and I closed it before I realized what was going on.
I am such an idiot!!!

No worries. We've all done it. Two rules if you think battery is dead: 1) don't put key in ignition; 2) don't close the hood if by dumb luck it's open.
If it's only overnight your battery should come right back.

Reminds me of a bonehead move I pulled in December. Pulled the car up on the trailer (windows down), cut the car off, tied her down, then turned the ignition on (no car start) to roll up the windows. Forgot to turn the ignition off.
Two hours later, I arrive in Birmingham, get in the car to pull it off the ramp, and the car's still on. Amazingly, no problem cranking the car. I thought for sure that I had fried something...

been there....
in the footwell there is a fuse panel that allows a jumper cable connection.
you will get enough power to pop the trunk and charge the battery.

To get this battery charged, is there any difference between jumping the car and driving it around town vs. buying a battery charger - something like this:

I guess what i meant to ask was: does this one work well, or can any one point me to a good charger that can also be used as a trickle charger.

Don't charge from fuse box terminal, that is only to electrify the boot latch and open it. Terminal in fuse box can not support charging battery.
Only charge from inside the boot directly to the battery. Maintanence charge can be done via cigarette lighter but I prefer to connect my Battery Tender directly to the battery in the boot.

I have not even had a chance to open the boot yet but will give it a shot tonight using another car/battery.
I ended up buying this to charge the battery, and to use as a maintenance charger

I have not been in a rush to get the car started since it is not even ready to drive right now, so I may just wait until early next week when the charger arrives, rather than jumping it with another car.

I have the same ctek 3300 charger. My battery was so drained that the ctek wouldn't recognize it as a battery. I had to use jumper cables with my m3 for 15 mins before I could use the ctek successfully. Took 2.5 days to resurrect a completely dead battery. Make sure you have ventilation though. Check the electrolyte level also.
