First Annual High-Desert Invitational DE/TT. LOOK ** NEW DATES
OCTOBER 26, 27, 28
Reno-Fernley Racetrack, Fernley, Nevada. Config C which is approx 3.2 miles. Most likely weather here at this time of year is 45 degree mornings with mid 70's in afternoon, sunny and no precip.
Limited to 60 attendees. Split among three groups:
DE/HPDE/TT Beginner (point-by, both sides, all track)
TT Intermediate (point-by, both sides, all track)
TT Advanced (courtesy point-by recommended, both sides, all track)
Groups will be split according to lap times so as to make the experience as good as it can be for everyone involved. Groups will be adjusted when necessary, as much as necessary during the event to get people into the correct grouping. Lap times will be the determining factor.
All drivers MUST have verifiable track experience, sorry, no newbies on track at this event.
Run what you brung as long as it is safe for you and others.
**As it is simply not possible to standardize cars attending, TBD compensating factors will be applied to cars/mods to reach an equalized lap time. ** (Of course raw lap times are welcome to be considered as well )
**I need the help of a skilled person(s) to take on the challenge of creating some sort of public interactive website where raw lap times can be entered and compensating factors (car/mods/weight/etc) applied by way of a simple user interface.**
It's a fun event, no prizes other than bragging rights, camaraderie, and a satisfying sense of exhaustion at the end of each day! If you want to establish side wagers with your track pals, have at it.
I am a SCCA PDX/TT
and will be glad to host track walks, chalk talk, end of session downloads, lead-follow on track, whatever to assist anyone who would want to subject themselves to such things. But keep in mind there is only one of me to go around and, hey, I want to drive too! We will likely also have access to some other locals willing to help with line/track questions.
Safety, fun, and lap times in that order are my priority as organizer of this event. Disrespectful, uncooperative drivers
will be warned and then ejected from the event. As this is a TT, passing is not for position, it is to facilitate a better time on your next lap. **If we work cooperatively and unemotionally (leave the ego behind) to shift ourselves amongst the run groups, passing should be of little concern on this big track**
Cost TBD will be per day and include lunch at the track, use of transponder/Raceiver, and car numbers on reusable vinyl. Expect it to be quite reasonable in cost.
Those who desire to pre-run the track may do so at a variety of events, please review the RFR calendar.
Expect after running this track to have many sleepless nights thinking of how to run it faster.
Once more details are locked in, registration and secure payment will be through Motorsportreg.com. Until that is up please message or email me to put your name in the pot below and receive first preference to register when sign-up opens. Kindly indicate based upon your experience and choice of weapon which group you might fall in?
It's a work in progress, expect changes! However the basic framework is what you see above. Changes/updates will be made to this post as needed.
Track Info:
Altitude is approx 4300 feet, it's high desert and the air is clean and fresh. No sugarcoating it, the facilities are basic and rustic, this place is all about the track. There is no electricity in the paddock, bring your genset. You can camp if you want to and weather permits. Portapotties (clean). Some shaded areas with picnic tables. One building we will use for timing/admin, another to chalk-talk if anyone wants it. There will be premium unleaded fuel onsite- at least 100 octane and perhaps 108 too, figure approx $10 per gallon for the convenience. Otherwise it is a 10 minute drive to the gas station in Fernley. Lunch will be brought in- I like to eat and eat good food, so expect me to put extra effort into that lol.
The track itself consists of several fast straights, many very technical corners including off cambers, blind corners, lots of elevation change, and not much to run into unless you do something incredibly dumb. Talking with the safety steward last week, we don't know of any cars damaged during a recreational event over the past three years. Oh- plan on running a well dampened but softly sprung set-up. This track rewards a working suspension, not one set to "rock-hard". Terminal speeds at end of front straight are 135-150mph. Back and side straights 120'ish mph.
Lodging is available in Fernley, 15 minutes from the track, or Reno/Sparks approx 45 minutes from the track. In Fernley there is a newish Comfort Suites, a Best Western and a Super 8 right next door to a casino (lol) that I will work with on Monday to block off some rooms for us at a special rate.
Just been reminded the track has a relationship with Grand Sierra Resort (just had $25mm renovation) in Reno, approx 45 min from the track, I expect to be able to update this with more info in regards to special rates as it develops.
Reno has a nice remodeled airport that is approx 45 minutes from the track.
It is possible I may have a have an enclosed, secure warehouse space available the week before the event where you can have your car dropped off at and then pick it up when you arrive from the airport but I'm going to charge you for the convenience and logistical challenges of dealing with that. Probably way better if you can get together with your geographically local pals and work with a race shop with a car carrier to handle the transport and/or support. The paddock can be opened on Thursday to receive carriers.
If it is looking like we are going to have a full turnout, I will see if I can get a mobile tire truck in there for tire support.

Please message or email me to put your name in the pot below and receive first preference to register when sign-up opens. Kindly indicate based upon your experience and choice of weapon which group you might fall in? No need to list mods now, I will ask for those later.
Remember, anyone's group may change during the event based upon request/laptimes to keep everyone safe (reduced lap time differentials) and happy (less passing needed). The list below is a very rough guess on how to split the groups. You position within the group below is purely random.

Are you going to put a list up?
1) Wanna911 - 996 TT - 512 whp - 3200 lbs - unlimited (NASA TT license)
Edit: Holy cow, I didn't realize Nevada was so far. 2300 miles (35 hours). Definitely not driving that, so as long as we can get a few guys from the SE to go in on some transport, I'm in.

Savyboy, YOU are awesome!
Ha! I am already scheduled to be in "residence" at "Chez Doug" in southern Nevada November 3 to 30............looks like I am changing my flight to fly down early. Hopefully, no one buys my GT3 in the meantime.
Please count me in for the HPDE group......but take note, I will be running street tires and I was giving the guys on Hoosiers at Miller in June a run for their $$$$.
Thank you for putting this together.
Cheers!
Doug N.
2010 GT3: 19" Forgelines, OEM 5 lug conversion ("D-lug"), Full Akrapovic Exhaust, Sharkwerks/Evoms software, GMG links/thrust bushings and swaybars, StopTech STR brake kit with Endless pads

Sounds like fun, not sure what group to be in...so are we time trialing in all groups? If so change me to the DE group, I don't want to get run over, but I don't want to run over people either

By the way, for experienced track drivers who have never run a TT, it is as easy as strapping on a cigarette pack sized device to your front or rear tow hook with some zip ties. That's it! And not suddenly turning into crazy Johnny Hotshoe after you do...lol.
Seriously, TT allows you to "race" for bragging rights or self improvement and not subject your car to the risks of car to car contact as in racing.

Thanks- I want in the TT, I'm competitive so just want to make sure I'm in the right spot, I love comparing times and pushing for the best you can get.

Savy, way to go in putting together this event. My offer for help still stands. Assuming I'm not shipped out of the country in the next few months, I'm in.
