2007 vs 2008 GT3
I am a current 996 TT owner considering an early 997 GT3. I searched this forum for differences between 2007 and 2008 GT3s and didn't find much. Is there really any major differences that would warrant buying one over another? Besides the apparent plumbing flaws are there other common items to look out for in these years? I plan to track the car about 25% of the time ish...
Thank you in advance.

I've had the '07 and later models, I'm not aware of anything even minor at all (no late-availability options such as in the 2010 when "new" things like dynamic engine mounts or nose lift.) You can check with the service manager to identify any real differences, updates, programs, recalls. AFAIK, both years exhibit the same catastrophic coolant hose fitting failure and RMS leak. Otherwise, I think price has also converged and it's down to mileage on the odometer more than any price delta for '08 over '07.
Unless you want the narrow body, go for the RS. The GT3 is a great all-rounder, but the RS is one of the great ones that will go down in history (and everything on the RS should be done to a tracked GT3.) In my not-so humble.

Seriously. You have mentioned the plumbing issues. LSD are a wear item and are not up to long term track use. Just have to upgrade it eventually. Fine for street. Synchros on second and I believe third gear can occasionally be a problem. Pressure plate is not up to long term track use and eventually need to be replaced with the 4.0 or similar unit. Overall the car is generally very reliable and handles beating on at the track better than most. I sure others will chime in too. Can also do a search on problem areas as this has been discussed before. Good luck. You won't regret it.
