Default how much noisier are cup cables?

Trying to improve the shift action on the RT12 (a known area of potential improvement on the car).

One suggestion was installing cup cables. but the downside according to Ruf would be some increased interior noise.

anyone done this on their car? how much noise or NVH are we talking about?

thanks in advance!

Many of us have done it, and it's a little more noise but IMHO nothing that would be considered annoying.

I have a set of Cup Car cables and Cup Car shifter for sale. Let me know.

Do you have a LWFW?
Do you have the OEM tranny mount?

The cable and cup 996 shift box are well worth the $. Action is so much better. I've driven in cars with just the cables and shifter and it's minimal as MJspeed indicated. But if you have LWFW and/or a solid tranny mount you'll get some additional NVH. The tranny mount makes this the most pronounced. I like the rattle. :-)

car is a Ruf RT12, which i'm 99.9% sure does not have a LWFW. if anything it's a heavy *** flywheel for refinement and everyday driving with a super soft clutch pedal!

not sure what tranny mount Ruf used... car has a GT2 shifter.

but the car is biased towards refinement and comfort, so apart from an exhaust that's louder than an OE 997 Turbo/GT2 exhaust, there isn't much NVH in the car...

It is an inexpensive mod, a couple hours of labor... to try it out, and completely reversible plug & play.... and it does help the shift action pretty markedly.

The cables don't make noise. They can emphasize the transmission noise and carry to cabin. No rubber parts on ends to insulate.

Kinda like muffled tapping. Don't mind it. Screeching brakes does bother me more esp on street with track pads. Mike

Is it like the whirr you hear on cup cars? I always assumed those were straight cut gearboxes or something...

Anybody have an opinion on the Porsche cup cables vs. the Numeric Racing version?

Mine make a faint alternator whine-like noise. Solid bushings added the most NVH to cabin, but made the most improvement to high lateral G shifting.

911SLOW posted this which I think accurately shows the cup cables and LWFW combo.

I have a set for sale for cheap. They are a great improvement and did not add much as far as noise.
