Default NYC GT3 Prep and Service

I recently moved to NYC from San Diego.

I'm in the market for 997.2 GT3 (finally).

I don't know the area all too well in terms of reputable shops, and I'm wondering where you locals get your cars serviced and prepped for track work.

Mainly looking for a trust worthy shop that can handle setup and prep, and also carry out PM such as Cam bolt checks ups and what not.

My research shows two shops within the area.

Speed Sport Tuning in Danbury, CT and
Formula Motorsports in Astoria, Queens.

Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Out of the ones you mentioned, Speed Sport is good. I would also consider DeMan in Nyack, Rennwerke in Elmsford, and Lynmor, TKX, and Rudtner's all on Long Island.

If you want to travel further, Dan Jacobs in Oxford, CT is great.

This is the clear winner!!! I travel 3.5 hours to have all my Porsches serviced by Dan and his expert crew. Honest. Dependable. Ridiculously knowledgeable.

Talk about a 180 in culture. NYC is fun. In smaller doses. Good to experience. If I ever moved to east coast again I'd have to keep a car in a warm place. FL or CA... do weekenders to get my drive on.

Yeah, it's tough. I did however do Team O'Neil winter days both winters I've been out here, that was heaps of fun.

if you are doing the Manhattan thing, been there done that, just find a car and keep it at a shop close to a track - VIR or Watkins - VIR is safer less blue metal guardrail

if you are doing the family thing and going to commute in from NJ then keep the car in your garage

i would not put a gt3 in a garage at $600 a month in NYC (front lip will get mangled and rear bumper is used to back out of tight spaces

when in rome do as the romans - just rent a car on the weekend or take a cab like everyone else

if you are there to work - they work 24x7 in NY and you won't have a lot of track time - when you do, it is far easier to have a shop deliver it and take it back

have fun - i both love and hate nyc

if this is a first for East coast tracks

my top 3 must dos while you are here

#1) WG
#2) Mosport (just outside of Toronto)
#3) VIR

Oh, and it may really irk you or not, but when you are in NY, they really don't care about what goes on anywhere else - for the most part it is like the rest of the US doesn't exist.

have fun

Haha, thanks for the advice. Summer time I will be be keeping the car local (Hoboken, NJ) in an indoor parking garage with a virtually flat drive way.

Winter time (Hibernation mode) it will be in my friend's climate controlled garage in Wilton, CT.

I have a company car here in NYC, the GT3 will be purely for grinning purposes.

I also recommend Bergen Imports they are located across the GWB.

Family owned for 2 generations- Harry is Porsche fanatic and straight up honest guy. ( known him for over 20 years)

There # is 201 943 2915 they are located in Cliffside Park, NJ 5 min from the GWB.

This Roman lives in Manhattan and owns 3 cars. Although owning a car really is not necessary here. Especially since these days everything is delivered to your door from folded laundry to groceries.

Cabs are actually slower than subways. Romans know that

This I agree with

I'd recommend HRD http://heinleinracing.com/site/. I've worked with Tiv for a few years and he's a very knowledgeable and reliable guy. Shop does some amazing work, and has built some super fast cars as well. He has a great shop in Ledgewood nj which is about 45 min out route 80 from the GWB.

I take my car to TPC Racing in Jessup, MD for major work, engine, suspension, tuning, trouble shooting. For normal stuff, oil change, some warranty work I take it to dealer or an indy shop.
