sometimes new cars fail when magazines test them. Just read in Car and Driver some comment that both the new 'Vettes they ran in their yearly VIR Lightening Lap blew their engines due to some sort of oiling problem. A semi-pro driver ran my old Superformance Cobra replica in the first Grassroots Motorsports Magazine challenge. No problems, he did OK in my car; a track-prepped Viper driven by Tommy Archer was the winner in that run, about ten years or so ago. As for out of warranty repair, my son's 996 blew the engine when the IMS failed at about 66K miles, some thousands out of his CPO, but they gave him a Porsche re-built engine if he paid labor costs. You just never know. Porsche engines have generally been around to have the bugs well known, so at least an owner knows what he is getting into when one is acquired. Even if Porsche doesn't address our GT3's coolant issues.

"Two minutes later a white Z06 rockets down the hill at turn 12, its V8 producing a shriek not heard all day. Despite the high heat and being driven hard already for many laps, and riding on tires with a fair amount of running on them, the lap timer flashes 1 minute, 29.8 seconds as Pilgrim crosses the line. Info pulled from the onboard -- and must-have for track drivers -- Cosworth-developed Performance Data Recorder’s telemetry shows a 1.5 lateral-g spike. Consider: a Camaro Z/28.R’s pole-position time at Road Atlanta for October’s IMSA Continental Tire Challenge Series race was 1:31.6 -- and the Z06’s lap time puts it within three seconds of the slowest qualifier, an Audi R8 LMS, in this year’s Petit Le Mans’ GT Daytona class at the same circuit.
When you realize a good set of slicks should knock four or five seconds off the Corvette versus race-car delta, the day’s final result isn’t just interesting as anticipated, but rather shocking. Of all of today's series-production performance cars, if you measure success by lap time, the Z06 is a remarkable achievement. The fact it is equally at home on quiet public roads on the way to and from the circuit, or as a daily driver, make it outright astounding.
We're still shaking our heads."

for Corvette that is a serious Road A lap time for stock tires....yea for tracking this beast will eat a GT3 .1. But for me and my non track driving I would rather have the Porsche.

Drove a couple of C5 Z06's- terrific cars.
That said, I'd rather have the GT3 from a purely economical point of view. If I really wanted the Vette, I'd wait a few years and pick one up used for 1/2 price.

Z06 but they are not 80k they are more like 100k with some decent options. Couldn't afford it so I bought a .1 GT3. The cool thing is in a few years I'll be able to get what I paid for my GT3 and I can buy a 100K Z06 for 70K.

In the immortal words of Coleman the Butler at the end of Trading Places, "Why can't we have both?" I traded in a 1999 996 straight up for a 2002 Z06 and enjoyed the Z06 much, much more. To be honest, I hated the 99 996 as a soul-less boring car compared to my 993. I've owned two Z06 and a ZR-1 and they are amazing cars but clearly different than Porsche. My 2015 Z06 with the Z07 package should be here in a month and I'm sure the MSRP will be about $105,000 before TTL. I don't really induldge in the stereotyping about the vette but I'm sure the same applies from the perspective of Vette owners towards P-Car owners. I just love cars and can appreicate goods ones no matter who made them or what stigma John Q may place on them. I buy them for me not what people will think of me. Like Chris Harris said, it is a disease! I'm already Jonesing about what I've read about what the ZR-1 might be!

Source? Chevy could have a mess on their hands.

You don't need to go 3lz. You can get 1lz or 2lz. The interior will be just as crappy as a 997.1 GT3. You also don't need to get all the exterior carbon aero, the .1 GT3 doesn't have any.

Owned Corvettes all my life. Purchased my first Porsche a few years ago. Ain't never going back. I see a corvette on every corner - dime a dozen. Does absolutely nothing for me. I don't care how fast or how great they can be.

Exactly. I won't get rid of my current Vettes, but I'm sure not buying any more. Well I'll make an exception for a C3 in Warbonnet Yellow.
