A 4.0, a GT2RS and a CGT are having a drink...

A little pic to help focus....
Has to be the CGT, the other two are just 997s although for me the CGT is a pretty pointless thing, no storage worth mentioning, horrid clutch, very wide (need two spaces in a car park) and needed PSM like no other Porsche. The howl at 8000 is pretty damn special and seals the deal really..

Even if I own a 4.0 I have to go with the CGT as nr 1. It stands out more, heritage of supercar. Maybe they produced a few to many??? But just like the 918 they just squeezed out a few to many.
The 4.0 is the greatest drivers car of an era. And the close connection with Motorsport is also a bonus.
Gt2rs only positive is production number!

I cannot disagree with many of the opinions stated so far. I think the market has spoken loud and early for the 4.0. The CGT is clearly collector-grade, unique and will remain a classic. However, each of the 3 cars represents a distinct and separate direction/market. Since it is already a given that the CGT and 4.0 are top contenders (and the reasons why are well known), I'd like to add some thought around the underdog 2RS. It may not change opinions on ultimate rankings but I think it is worth closer consideration (remember, this is 20 years from now looking back).
For all the reasons the 4.0 is the pinnacle of an era for a street legal “track car”, the 2RS is the pinnacle of the same era for the track capable “street car”. The Mezger turbo motor is one of the toughest, most dependable, high output production motors Porsche has ever made. It is a motor that can trace its DNA to endurance racing and has stood the test of time through 14+ years of evolution. In my view, it goes down as one of the best production motors to-date – particularly for street application. The 2 and later the 2RS were respectively the fastest production cars Porsche ever made. Early use of VGT, very limited production numbers, last of manual, last of Mezger Turbo and possibly the last GT2.
Although perhaps slightly misunderstood today, I think history (and Porschephiles of the future) will judge the 2RS (and its contributions to the mark) more favorably than some may think. Porsche obviously considered it to be the most bad-**** production 911 street car it had ever made to-date (evident in the MSRP) and I think history will judge it the same way.
I think each will go down as the pinnacle to their respective markets.

I agree that the CGT is unique, but what technology from the CGT has really trickled down to the mainstream Porsche lineup? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the waterfall center console in the interior.

quickie (and sadly ill-informed ) reply?
GT2RS = turbo = not a contender IMO
Carrera GT = Spectacular mechanicals, challenging aesthetics
RS 4.0 = just another 911....................
Carrera GT = Winner!

Applying your "only brings hp and torque to the party" principle to the current state of the the 993GT2 would imply that car would have been insignificant as well.
According to the current market and overall enthusiast support; the hp and torque that the 993 brought to the party was not as insignificant as last weeks news.
Perhaps we should revisit the GT2RS old news in 20 years?
