Default 997.2 GT3 engine removed, what to do now?!

This post is intended for the expertise of the collective RLer's...

So, the obvious fix or reason the engine/trans are removed is for pinning the coolant lines along with some general house keeping (ie. new plugs, cleaning, Sharkwerks alloy exchange elbows). Car has 38k on it, no over-revs outside of range 2 (1-2 in range 2, 35 in range 1, all at a min. of 200+ hours ago), so internal damage is not a huge concern per say.

My question is around anything else that you guys would suggest doing, I have looked at an AASCO LWFW and an seriously considering that while the assembly is out. But is there anything, anyone could come up with that has proven to make the non-RS engine a bit more exciting or comparable?

Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

If removing the dual mass flywheel, you need an RK Harmonic Damper for sure. Couple others have had issues converting to a singlemass flywheel on the .2 GT3.

I'd have your cam actuator bolts re loctited and torqued while it's out. Easy to get to and cheap insurance. And then a damper!

Replace all gaskets, o-rings, all rubber hoses, clamps
If you are doing clutch ltw fly, now is time to do it, in that case: rs4.0 clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, bearing, clutch fork, shaft bearing,

other things to do include: front/rear main seals, water pump, expansion tank, thermostat, fuel filter, new drive belt, Guards diff, oil change, tranny fluid change, upgraded motor mounts

^^^ thanks both, that helps me get a grasp on things. Kind of figured there were items to address outside of the obvious ones.

I'm doing the exact same thing, and was considering an Aasco LWFW. A trusted mechanic said the LWFW route isn't worth the trouble or money, but I'd be interested in hearing from any LWFW guys. It is so tempting.

I also read that Aasco was a better option than the GT3 RS route.

Any input on the LWFW side and Aasco vs GT3 RS?

Sure, find it for $15-20k and it will be done

I don't think the budget allows for it at the moment. Otherwise, it would be seriously considered.

Similar thoughts as you, still on the fence a bit with the hassle and amount of hours needed to do so.

Have you considered re-gluing the coolant pipes vs. welding or pinning? Pinning is not going to prevent pipes from leaking over time.

Did this 3 months ago and have 6 hard track weekends on the new set-up. Everything is holding together nicely!

If I knew of a place in the midwest, I would be on the phone discussing tomorrow. Just not into the idea of crating the engine up and such. Where as if I could physically take it somewhere and leave it for the upgrades, I would definitely see what that would take.

Just know it is a big process to rebuild these and have everything work correctly.
