Default When to replace coil packs on GT3?

Doing some long needed maintenance. Car has 30k miles so it's time for a spark plug change. But what about coil packs? I did research and didn't see any info on when to replace them.

Any ideas?

When you get misfire codes. Or just be proactive and do it with plug change. I did mine. Get the BERU units, they are identical (including the OEM marking codes, at lease they were when I replaced mine).

The coil packs are cheap enought to consider doing them at every plug change plus they suffer from heat, cracking and other issues so it worth the expensense. If you haven't had you coils changed since new they have been upgraded (thicker casings etc) so its a good time to 'upgrade'- note you will need a set of longer retaining screws due to the change.

Also rembember to use diaelectric grease when installing new or old coils.

Replaced at 17k when I did the plugs on the 2007. Keep it fresh.

+1 had mine go out on me at the track. Better to replace them early than ruin a day(s) at the track.

Did mine when two failed at Sebring.

Had i thought of it, I should have did the plugs and coils sooner as the car was 8 years old.

I believe the owner's manual recommends a plug service at some point and it would be wise to do the coil packs at the same time. Otherwise you could you ruin your track weekend like i did

think the plugs are 4 years / 30000 miles but thats to long on miles for me... 20000 miles is optimal.

I ordered a coil pack set from Suncoast but it's back ordered until next month. Wondering if they are the new style of coils described above, and if so do they include the longer bolts.....

Checked through some maintenance information I have and Alldata and there wasn't any information concerning the recommended replacement interval for these. So I called Porsche and the parts department is telling me there are no notes for a suggested interval, it's really replace as they fail kinda of thing.

You mentioned the updated longer bolt style coil, but for your model GT3 you should be running part number 9A160210406. Which isn't the coil that would require longer hardware (that is number 99760210402, for most other 911's).

Beru is in fact the OEM manufacturer for these, so would advise going that route if you are going to replace yours, also agree might as well get a new set of plugs while you are at it.

Just did mine with new plugs at 40k. Saw some minor cracking on the coils but had no issues yet.

99760210402 - Fits all 996/986 including Turbo and GT3. Fits 997.1 and 987.1 - This is the updated coil for those models.

9a160210406 - Fits 997.2 and 987.2

the 40mm longer bolts for the updated coils is part 90038502501 you'll need 12. But OP your car uses a 9A1 coil as described above 9A160210406
