Default Oil change

So, I did my second oil change today. When I drain the oil, I really don’t get that much out. When I fill it, I can only get about 5 quarts back in. Is that normal? I’m pretty sure that the oil capacity is much more.

You drained the tank and the crankcase and only got 5 quarts?

You need to drain oil from 2 places -- the oil tank and and the crankcase. Two different drain bolts and replacement crush washers needed -- and they are different sizes. Also, you need to counter-torque the oil tank drain bolt.

Assuming you haven't been burning a lot of oil, you should be able to get out between 8-9 qts.

That’s right. I drained the crankcase last time. I forgot about draining the crankcase this time. I guess I’ll have to do it over. I was in a hurry.

What does it mean to counter-torque the drain bolt?

It means to hold a second wrench on the case putting force in the opposite direction to that which you're turning the torque wrench to prevent damage.

Does the car need to be level, or can it be done with race ramps / will all the oil come out?
