997.2 Turbo (2008) leaking oil
On the drivers side toward the rear of the engine, oil is leaking down onto the coolant tube (where the large o-ring seal joins the tube from the engine to the coolant system) and leaving anywhere from a nickle sized spot to a large 2" X 3" spot on my driveway. Sometimes it leaves no spot at all. Inconsistent and very difficult to diagnose where the oil is coming from (definitely engine oil). Any ideas? The independant mechanic wants to pull the engine to diagnose it and I feel that may be a bit extreme.....

I've seen the cover for the left hand chain tensioner leak. It's on the top of the chain housing. Oil ran down the chain housing. It could drip right on the tube you mentioned.
Might be able to see that cover with the airbox removed. There's still a couple of pipes in the way. Don't have the car right here to check.

Thanks Mike. I stuck a camera scope up from the bottom of the engine and from the top of the engine and got nowhere. The engine compartment is as tight as it gets. I will start taking stiff off tonight. Yuck. Thanks for the advice.

Three Wheelin'
My 2007 Turbo just went thru a big Turbo build and they found a minor rear main seal leak (that was replaced). I had not noticed any garage floor residue (and I check quite often)...so I guess mine was extremely minor.

Loose crank bolt
mechnic removed everything from the top of the engine and discovered a leaking crank bolt. Now they need to take it apart and find out if it’s the outer seal or inner seal. Geez....

Crank or crankcase thru bolt? Which one? Are you sure? Do you have pictures of the area that it's leaking? Get pictures from the tech.

Here are the pictures. Basically it looks like a leaking head gasket. Dealer wants nearly $17,000 (no kidding) to R&R engine, split the crankcase, and repair with new seals. Ouch.

Leaking Case Thru Bolt
Basically a head bolt that is leaking (or so I'm told). Dealer wants nearly $17,000 to R&R the engine, split the cases, and repair the seal. Too much....

Sapeco, I think you posted the wrong picture. I see a screen shot of your email. You may want to delete that if it is anything sensitive.
Anyway, do you have any independent shops around you who specialize in porsche? I'm betting you have more than one in LA and I'm betting you'll find someone to fix that who will charge a lot less.

Strange on the email screen shot. Thanks for letting me know. Yeah I talked to an independent at length and he will come in between $7,000 and $8,000. Great car but ouch!
