991 Thank you vs AMG GT
Looking for comments from Owners
i’ve owned dozens of Porsches including 7 TTs starting w a new 930 in 1976
Looking at buying a 991 Turbo S but I’m old and would like some noise under my *** before I’m too old to care. Any of you have experience w the AMG GT. Build quality shouldn’t be an issue w AMG as it was w Aston V8 Vantage and they sound good. Also like looks and sound of the Mac but I hear service is an issue
TIA

I drove one on the track last year back to back with the GTR. The GTS wasn't even remotely as exciting or drove as well as the GTR for me. I'd get the GTR if it was me and I didn't need a convertible.

I drove an AMG GTS and it did nothing for me. I loved my C63 AMG and it just was meh. I didn't like the long hood. Power was good but not memorable. It handled nicely but I wasn't at the track.

I love the AMG GT but in addition to a 997TT, not as a replacement.

After driving P cars for 5 decades I'm thinking to stay put. For one thing they fit me like a glove. I guess I need the 991 Turbo and do my due diligence on putting on an aftermarket exhaust. There has to be a thread or three on what to install. Always fearful of the dreaded drone........
Thanks for the above comments.

I just went through these thoughts this winter. I’ve looked at quite a few AMG GTS’s. I test drove only one briefly. I decided I couldn’t give up my 997tt. However, I still like them and keep thinking I should take one out for a longer drive.

While not an AMG GT I can share my feelings on AMG cars after owning an SL55 and CLS55.
The engines are incredible. But the sound of a Merc V8 is so different from a 911, or Ferrari. It sounds like what it is....a big *** V8 w/ gobs of torque. I was so shocked at how much grip they had. The CLS55 chassis was so amazing except for one thing...the weight. I suspect the GT would have that same feel. If you're getting up in years like me, the comfort of the Merc is unparalleled, but it isn't that tossable feel that I still crave. The ability to know just where the end of the hood or the rear is. I like a smaller package. The power was fun, the car wasn't. But on a drive to Vegas it's hard to beat.
You live in Orange County where traffic is friggin killer. The Merc would be nice for that. I assume you mean the GT S coupe?
It's amazing how almost all the AMG cars depreciate. I bought both of mine just 3 years old w/ almost no miles for half price. I see 2016 GT S coupes for $65k w/ 12k miles. Crazy. When I sold my CLS55...one of the most amazing cars ever produced, with a sticker of $129k, it was 11 years old but only had 70k miles. I was lucky and got $18k for it.
There's a 2017 in matte gray. for $71k w/ 14k miles. I think the matte finish is a fad that might pass, but on this car it's pretty bad-***. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing

We loved our AMG GTS
It felt like a more refined luxury car whereas the turbo, to me at least, feel as if its more performance oriented. The 2007 and 2008 center console does a leave bit to be desired after driving the GTS. Maybe the later turbo with the upgraded interior would be a good compromise.
