2009 997.2 Turbo or 996 Turbo S?
Apologies as this is my first post in this forum and am guessing this question has been asked before but i'm trying to decide between a 2009 997.1.5 Turbo or a 2005 996 Turbo S and curious what the experts in this forum think? I've owned a 996 Turbo S and loved it but am intrigued by the 2009 997.2 with it's much more modern interior and it being the last year of the Mezger engine. I could also get talked into a 996 RUF Rturbo 550.
thoughts?

First what are your plans for it?
garage queen or weekend driver.
Are these coupes or cab’s
manual or auto or PDK
As for rarity a Turbo S in coupe with manual should hold good value but then again the 997.2 is doing good too.
As for me I like the 996 more.
so more details might help

If it's a 09 manual those are pretty rare.

I'm looking for something that i will drive several times a week (not a garage queen but somewhere between daily and weekend driver). Much more interested in a coupe than cab and am torn between manual and tiptronic (PDK isnt an option as i would be looking at an '09) I realize the manual will hold value better but my wife will prob drive this on occasion when i have the SUV and am not turned off by the AMG racing tiptronic transmission.

If you look at lots of pictures of the interiors... and lots of images of the exteriors, then watch lots of YouTube videos from reviewers that reviewed them, you'll probably get a better sense of it all. It's not something I could recommend one or the other since it's deeply personal but my own personal choice would definitely be the 2009 Tiptronic Turbo. Updated interior but it could be VERY expensive when and if you could find one for sale in the color combo that works for you. I would definitely consider the TIP since your wife will most likely want to drive it. Best of luck and post pics when you find one. You can't go wrong with either car. I'd say you MUST go see them both in person but in all likelihood, that could be impossible...it will be hard to find one near you and you may end up buying one sight unseen halfway across the US and have to have it trucked to your house like I did after searching for 4 months, for an hour a day, each day, obsessively searching every single site there is.

Ive had a 996 TTS cab 6mt and a 2011 and 2012 997.2 TTS coupes and now a 997.1 6mt coupe. I miss my .2 TTS cars but downsized for the right reasons. I've done to much to the .1 to ever sell it and it's pretty well sorted out now after many years and mods.
All that said, I'd go with the 997 tt for these reasons. IMHO.
1. Better looking car
2. Better looking interior
3. I hear the AWD is improved from the 996tt.
Good luck and post picks on what you decide.

No comparison - 997 interior is so far advanced from that dated 996 debacle. And the 997 is so much newer in so many ways - not just ergonomically - but fit and finish and as long as its been cared for.....

I have a bit of a contrarian opinion... I personally prefer the driving dynamics of a 996 Turbo over a 997.1 Turbo. More steering feel, more of a RWD feel than the e-diff in the 997 and if you want full RWD, very easy to convert to RWD unlike the 997. Add in the the significant price advantage and no spun-camshaft issues and it's a no-brainer in my book. I like them so much, I just bought a second 996 Turbo!
I also have a 991.1 Turbo S. Much more modern, amazing capabilities, stunningly quick, but I'll still grab the keys to one of the 996 Turbos as often as not when heading out for a drive in the canyons and twisites...
Looks? Did someone mention looks? Apart from silly group-think that the 996 Turbo's GT1 inspired headlights are somehow a let down, they are stunning cars.
If you really want modern and sophistication, skip the 997 gen and just go right to the 991...

Buy the Tiptronic if you must.
