Default Discussion: Have you tuned your Porsche (Why or Why Not?)

What's the general consensus on this forum and platform when it comes to tuning? Have you tuned your engine and/or transmission? If you did, why did you do it, and if you didn't, what's holding you back?

We've been tuning Porsches for over 20 years at APR. You can see a list of Porsche Models we tune here. It's not all of them, but a good chunk of models. The software we have is also on sale until the end of October right now.

When it comes to some of the other brands we tune, some of the more high end models, like the Audi RS6 and the Audi RS3 are heavily tuned. On the RS3 front it's hard to find one that isn't tuned. We see the same on some Porsche models, but on others it seems some are hesitant.

So, what's your take on tuning?

Curious why are you inquiring on the 997 Turbo forum when you don't even offer a tune for any of these models?

They do. It is one of the tunes I’m considering due to being the only that offers on the fly map switching using your cruise control stalk. It is also one of the most cost effective ones. The only I don’t like is, if I want to remove it, I have to go back to where I got it installed to get it removed.

They also offer for .2

Is this strictly an OTS tune, or is there the ability to make a custom tune based on modifications such as turbo, exhaust, throttle body, etc.?

I have owned 3 vehicles with APR tunes. I tuned my RS3 with APR the moment I crossed the 1k break in period. Glad I went APR plus as well as Audi TD1 me over a leaking water pump, the highest failure rate item on that car, those aholes.

I want to tune my 997 turbo and APR is one of the tunes I am considering. The price is certainly very enticing compared to other options. The thing hold me back is my car is still on the stock clutch. I'm pretty sure that the ~600+ tq advertised by the tune would either have my clutch slipping right away or start slipping soon. My ultimate goal is a upgraded Sachs 2.5 clutch kit but until I do that I'm not even going to try.

Our 997.1 Turbo had a beefy clutch upgrade. I'd say it's pretty standard to do when tuning.

I have 997 TTS, and I'm on their website.. they do not show any ECU tunes for 997.2 TT or TTS. Not sure what you're talking about. Although I also didn't see 997.1 TT ECU tunes earlier when I posted, so perhaps I'm missing something, as I clearly can find them now. https://www.goapr.com/platform/porsc...ubmodel/turbo/

I really think it varies on personal opinion but generally accepted since the platform is capable and there is lot's of aftermarket support. I have and did to make my car less boring.

Did your boost response improved? On mine I really don't like how all of it comes on at 3k RPMs

bigger is not always better
bigger VTGs are known for slower boost response

Mine car had a dealer installed tune package at purchase (exhaust, intake, exhaust manifold, and tune).

These cars really wake up with these mods.

I know this is just a what tune you got thread so......I've had a softronic tune for many problem free years. 100 cell cats with no issues and the car is alive from it. Boooooooost kicks in much earlier. No problem out running those big big Dodge motors. I'm sure of the available tunes are a wake up call for the motor but a safe tune was very important to me.
