Default 991 turbo & 997.2 turbo

Hi guys! In general, I sold my wonderful 991.1 turbo and now I really want to buy 997.2 turbo. I want to get a more real, emotional Porsche than the 991 body. I'm considering the MK2 generation. Who can say anything about this Porsche compared to the turbo 991.1

I own a 997.2 TTS and have driven a 991TTS
the newer is by far bigger in every way and more comfortable BUT BUT
It “FEELS ““heavier and lazier the electric steering is numb but performance is about equal because of weight difference
what I love about my 997.2 is that you don’t see anywhere near as many as 991 or 992 cars
the rarity of the 997 is a future plus I believe
they built 3x as many 991 992 cars

If you want an emotional drive, then, for me, that means a 6MT in either a 997.1 (Mezger) or 997.2 (DFI) engine.

I hate to admit it…. But a 997.2 4S would probably be the next car on my list if I wanted something with more involvement (non GT car). My buddy has a 2010 black over tan coupe and it just seems to be a real nice car. Sitting inside, depending on options you couldn’t tell it apart from the turbo. Probably a third less money.
But…. With current market values dropping on everything you might be able to get a deal on a.2 turbo manual if one comes on the market. Just check the original sticker as the 2010-13 turbo manuals tended to be less optioned than the S cars… like average 155K new vs. 175K…

I think any drop in prices will be a blip to be taken advantage of not indicative of true values over the long haul.

The 997.2 turbo will give that emotion with more than enough power.

Slightly off topic, sorry OP. That's actually what I did over the summer: replaced my 997.2 TT Cab with a 997.2 S with X51 (GTS engine basically). I loved my Turbo, and I sometimes miss the enormous shove of that engine, but I find myself enjoying more the Carrera S, that I drive in Sport + most of the time and drive much closer to its limit

Here's my post from another thread on someone shopping for a 991 TT/TTS....

If looks are your thing (subjective) then nobody can tell ya what to purchase.... If Performance is your thing, like me, then "objectively" the 991.1 or .2 is the far superior car (especially the handling in my view.)

"Hesitant to say this but since I had a 997.2TTS and upgraded to the 991.2TTS, seeing the HUGE difference in chassis / handling advancement they made, along with the better PDK in the 991's, I personally would continue the hunt vs. spending a bunch on the 997.2.

I did go through the tuning thing with my 997.2 also, and even though Sam was able to get it going well, it isn't / wasn't as easy with as much gain as there is in the 991's (Esp. 991.2's)

Now if you're totally okay with how the 997 handles and only want more straight line speed while enjoying the awesome classic design of the 997's, then please don't let me sway you.

I would just hate to see you spend money now and then still miss out on the 991's advancement.

Again, don't shoot the messenger, just wanted to make sure you knew what you might be missing / keeping...... Good luck with whatever you choose... No judgements."

Big the price difference alone doesn’t equate to the comparison even with newer model advancements the speed difference isn’t that great you can get a great 997.2 tts for around 85 a 991 is well over 100 and a 992 is over 150
besides the rarity of 997.2 should make it a better value longer term
if I was tracking the car then 991 or 992 make sense but on pure street driving very little difference

I see your point... Money wasn't something I was working around for the decision though. Each individual has to decide their budget and what they're comfy with. If money isn't an issue, then that's where my response aimed. Well, also in how they drive.

For me and driving like I like to do and keeping up with the people / vehicles I like to keep up with, I can do it MUCH easier and with much more confidence in the 991.

But yes, for most folks, the 997.2 TTS will be MORE than plenty.

Agreed - no experience with 991s but as a 997.2 turbo cab owner who's also driven a few 992s and some 60s-80s rebuilds, the 6MT is going to be the real differentiator from an 'emotional' perspective
