I've read that the second ECU doesn't disguise the fact that ECU tuning has been done - the info is stored somewhere else. Anyone confirm?

if i don't have sports chrono, can i still "chip" the car to get overboost?

Yes you can tune a non optioned sport chrono. Since the factory incorporated a limited 3lb boost with this option a tune in your non SC will be consistant through the whole power band.
