Question Test drove a 2004 Turbo with X50 package

Test drove a 2004 Turbo with X50 package.
I was blown away with the power. It felt 50% faster than my 2002 non turbo.
It felt like a dream. This is what a Porsche is supposed to be like.
When I finally buy my Turbo it will have the x50 package.

Can an x50 package easily be put on any turbo?
What are the main problems with this turbo engine? Example on my non turbo it was the "rear main seal".

I saw one on ebay tonight for 94K

04 is a 996, are you asking if a 997 turbo can have an x50 package applied? Currently its not avaliable from what i understand. Otherwise I think you might have better luck posting in the 996 turbo section.

It has been verified that the X50 package is essentially the GT2 state of tune on the4wd platform. The stock 997TT is going to still be faster than that, and a stg2 tuned 997TT is even faster.

The 997tt tip/sport chrono I drove last week was at least as fast as my 02X50 (stock), and probably faster.AS

Thanks for the info. If the stock 997tt is faster than that I bet the 997 tt Cabriolet is going to be awesome!

I was not sure, I thought the x50 package would have been something they carried over from 996 to 997.

Im thinking tho they may have similar power etc.. Its the way that the newer one (997) puts that power to the ground that makes it faster.

I don't think the X50 carried over, and that is probably a plus for 997tt buyers. The sport chrono gives you the overboost and extra hp. at much lesser cost. I'm guessing the GT2 will be the equivalent of the X50 on the new platform, and will probably add 40 or 50 hp above the sport chrono. If that is well-received, we may see an X50 option on the 997tt later. AS

I thought the SC for 997tt only adds extra torque (to 505 if I remember correctly) but the power remains the same, no?

Peak power remains the same, but between 2000 and 5000 rpm both torque and HP are increased compared to non-SC.

p. 29 of the sales brochure has a graph where hp increase starts small at 2K rpm, is 27 hp more at 4K, and no more at 5K+. tq increase is a flat 60 lbs ft from 2K to 4K, going to zero increase at 5K.

I tried to copy the graph here from my pdf, but it won't go.
