Default Raced a Viper

Hi,
First post here. Im a new 997 TT owner. This is my 2nd TT 911. Previously I had a 996 TT.
Anyhow, my neighbor owns a 97 Dodge Viper GTS and has headers+ exhaust. We both decided to take our cars out to see which one was faster. I was pretty confident that my 997 TT would take him easily. So we are side by side on the freeway, and about to do a rolling race . We are cruising at 50 and I do 3 beeps with my horn. We gun it, im in 4th gear. Anyhow his car freaken pulls and hes like 1 1/2 cars ahead of me and continues to creep away.
We repeated this 3 times with the same results. Ill tell you, those Vipers
are monsters.

Chuck

Why did you start in 4th gear from a roll at 50mph?
Why not 3rd or arguably 2nd?

if you were in 4th gear at 50 mph, you were in the wrong gear. try from a 40 or 45 roll in 2nd gear.

Congratulations, mate! Keeping up with tradition, you have to post pics of your TT! As far as we are concerned, as long as we don't see it, it does not exist!

His car must be heavily modded. I pulled away from a newer SRT10 without any problems even when I was stock

Thanks for the responses.
I will try a lower gear next time. Anyhow my neighbors a cool guy though. Hes in his 50s and has 2 Vipers. He told me that hes gonna do the heads +1.7 roller rockers next which will give him another 100 HPs

On my 997, I would like to run 5 to 10 more psi boost. Does anyone do a computer upgrades on our cars? Im also open to any other modifications, Thank you....

For starters,

www.awe-tuning.com (mike at AWE is site sponsor) - see also (www.giacusa.com)
www.fvd.us
www.revotechnik.com (also site sponsor)
www.evoms.com
Protomotive (not sure of their website)

You should also check out the 997TT forum on 6speedonline.com which has MANY chipped TT's.

Chuck,

First of all, 10 more psi boost?? You already get 12-14 without SC overboost, 15-17 psi with SC. 25-27 psi boost is gonna cost you big-time, if you can get it. BTW, do you have SC w/overboost? Before giving your car a final grade, try again as suggested using a lower gear. You want to be in the power band from the get-go if you're tryin' to win.

I had an 06 coupe, stock, dynoed @ 432whp which is equal to 997tt. Plus the Viper carries alittle more weight. At sea level I could see the better driver winning, at my altitude (5,600ft) I pull them. A 97 made 400 @ the crank, even with exhaust and gears you should spank it. A wrong gear choice might explain it, or it's an RSI turbo Viper...LOL

I am sorry but you must be kidding, this was a planned race and you left the car in 4th gear at 50 mph?
I don't think modding the car is the answer in this case.

"in his 50s" Did you have to help him get out of his wheel chair and into the car. LOL
