Default $460 Oil Change at Paul Miller Porsche in NJ

Okay, I got sucker punched by my local dealer Paul Miller. First visit with the Turbo I had the car in to have a failed sensor repaired under warranty. I took the call from them while in a meeting, and asked if I wanted to have the oil changed. I knew she was due, so I said yes, thinking how much could fifteen minute work be. Afterall, the turbo is the easiest car I have every owned for oil changes. No bellpans, etc. Couple of hours later I get the word my car is ready, and the Total is $462! First reaction was they were charging me for the repair, but no it was only for the Oil Change.

Me: "How it could be 462 for all of 15 minutes work.
Dealer "We, the Oil is over $100 by itself".
Me: Then what was the other $300 for? Is your labor rate $1200 per hour?"
Dealer "Well its a Turbo and costs more."

The bill itself doesn't list time, only a code CP250, for $250 in labor, but $150 in parts.

So the morale of the story is ask first, and realize there are dealers out there which charge not because of the time/effort for the work, but because they think they can charge whatever they can get away with.

Hope this post will be a warning to other owners to be careful!

Did they replace your cabin filter also.????

Had mine change the other day 60 bucks for part for cabin filter. Only had 6 K miles I doubt if the filter was even dirty at all. With the filter change $25.00 for labor on filter change my cost was $385.00 and I thought I was raped. I will pay the high fee as long as in warranty but after warranty is out I doubt I will ever have serviced at dealer DIY oil filter heavy stuff at Porsche Specialist

FYI oil change does not have to be done by a Porsche dealer. As far asI know your warranty is not void if you go to independant shop.

I'll go back to doing my own oil changes. I don't put that much mileAge on her. It also keeps me more in touch with the car. It can be a nice distraction. I also found that amazon has the oil, and filter on sale for $75, free shipping.
I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer as they are looking to advance some discount on this charge. I'll let you know the progress.

Well, here in California, the dealer must have a signed estimate before a job can be started. Check with your state.

Unfortunately that's the price of doing biz at the dealer, I guess if you toss 'em a bone now they are more likely to help you with a warranty issue in the future.

^That should not be the case. How about- If they want my business in the future, they should think twice about raping me?!! This happened in NJ where the client has other P-dealershis in the area!

A shame. Enjoy changing your oil at home and enjoy bonding with your car!
I just spend the money I save on buying more tools!

+1

I paid dealer about $220 for last oil change, plus buy my PS2 there for about $50 more per set. I have a recent warranty issue that was approved in about 30 seconds.

Despite Moss Magnussen, I am staying with the dealer until warranty is up, then I have a great indy to go to.
