If Porsche sticks with their normal release timeline and the 991 naturally asperated base and S come out in Sept 2011 as a 2012 model, then you could expect the Turbo in the Fall of 2012 as a 2013 model.

Porsche will reveal a new incarnation of the iconic 911 at next year’s Frankfurt motor show. The company is hoping to win back traditional customers in the face of tough supercar competition and reaffirm its future under the guise of parent company Volkswagen.

Codenamed 991, the heavily re-engineered coupé and cabriolet are set to go on sale in the UK in October 2011. They will get freshened exterior styling, a higher-quality interior, more powerful yet highly fuel-efficient six-cylinder boxer engines, sharpened dynamics and a greater list of high-end options.

The new 911 will head further upmarket from its current positioning and allow Porsche to reshuffle its model line-up in readiness for the introduction of a new entry-level mode, to be developed in partnership with VW.

Porsche has traditionally made big changes to the 911 every second generation, so while today’s 997 is regarded as a heavily facelifted version of its predecessor, the new 991 — seen here in Autocar’s exclusive illustration — has been developed from a clean sheet of paper.

Weissach engineers are hopeful that its features will allow it to continue through to the next model, due in 2017, without any significant or costly modifications.

Further upmarket? Big price jump then!

So what would an upgrade to a 991 cost me I wonder?

Well a new 997.2 Turbo S is around £130k (which is what I spent total on my mod'ed 997.1 Turbo), so lets assume a good spec 991 Turbo will be say £150k. Let's also say in 2013 (assuming Armageddon hasn't wiped us all out in Dec 2012 ) my MY2008 Turbo is worth £50k, that means I lost £80k over 5 years in depreciation and to upgrade it will cost me £100k.

Scary to even contemplate Might as well just keep the 997.1 Turbo and get an extra 991 GT3 for the same cost to me! Hmmm, that's not a bad idea

Well I'm buying into the next model since I'm sitting on my hands about buying a Turbo S right now. Don't know if I will be kicking myself in the **** on that one or not? If so I will just have to go back and buy a used S at a discount. Oh well!

I am surprised by the look of the front end - with the Euro NCAP (or whatever they are called) pedestrian safety standards I expected it to look more like a Mini Cooper with a taller flat front end...

There will always be one for sale. I couldn't wait. I will be 53 before that model comes out and I will have lost 3 more years with out a Turbo by then. If they make something I cant live without I will worry about that when it hits the showrooms. But I Dont think I will buy another 911 maybe a 928 version one day. The older i get I can see me wanting more leg room comfort but still Porsche Performance

Paul died. So I think he to would not wait you can always trade sell etc. You may lose money but I want one now. If 991tt puts my TTS to same I will bite bullet and get one. My last day might be before the 991 comes out. So for me 997TTS is the best out for a new model at this time.

Are they literally using the same lines as the test mules for that photoshop job? To me the spy shots, the car looks beefier than that!

The front-end won't look nothing like that. The rear quarter looks too similar to the current model but I think that will be about 88% accurate.

Heres hoping for a base of 400 BHP on the 911 S model and standard 450 BHP for the GT3 the soon follow after that. GT3RS coming in at 480 BHP and 4.0L a la Cup Car!

Front end looks Audi-inspired. Anyhow, I think this is just a speculative rendition and I don't put much stock into what someone thinks the car might/could/should look like. I don't see Porsche ever letting the cat out of the bag so early.

The spy shots I have seen show a longer and wider car.

According to the 997 wiki:

Production of the Carrera and Carrera S coupés began in early 2005, all-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S versions began shipping in November 2005, Turbo and GT3 derivatives went on sale in late 2006 and the 911 GT2 in 2007


...so add 6.5 years to all of those for the equiv 991 models.
