Turbo Gen I vs. Gen II, lap times

Turbo Gen I vs. Gen II, lap times
On the (in)famous Nurburgring Nordschleife the 2006 Turbo beat the 2009 Turbo by 9 seconds a lap, does anybody have a clue as to why? The newer car has 20 more horses and 35 pounds less weigth.

Lots of variables - weather, driver, tires, suspension set up, etc. - hard to determine why without more info.

Porsche has over the last years submitted lap times by works drivers, but neither the Gen I nor Gen II lap times have the driver's names or "Porsche" listed next to them so it is hard to be sure that the lap times were achieved by works drivers.
Wikipedia lists the following information:
7:38 Porsche 911 Turbo September 2008 Porsche conducted test,[30] stock vehicle with stock tires
7:39 Porsche 911 Turbo (2010) Porsche Conducted Test [36] Stock vehicle with stock tires
Still, the Gen I is faster than the Gen II in a test that Porsche must have wanted the Gen II to win.
The Gen II has more power, less weigth, more advanced suspension/4wd. Just trying to figure out why it is slower.

The following was posted by Car and Driver in late 2010 referring to the Turbo S...
We were just as impressed by the S’s capabilities during cornering, aided by the new Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) system. The 996 and the 997 displayed a hint of understeer when initiating a turn on slippery surfaces. The torque-vectoring system, which applies the brake on the inside rear wheel, eliminates the minor push entirely. The car gets slightly modified front-suspension geometry, giving it more precise steering feel and making the 911 Turbo S seem almost like a mid-engine car. Porsche says lap times on the Nürburgring have improved from 7:39 for the regular Turbo to 7:37. We have no reason to doubt this claim.
So it would seem that Porsche backs the 7:39 time on the 997.2 TT.
