997 coolant leak
Guys about three weeks ago I saw and smelled coolant. Small leaks from what appeared to be from the front of the engine next to the oil resorvoir. I also saw several small drops from the right rear of the engine next to the exhaust. I began to read all about the leaks and for sure I figured an engine drop forthcoming. Most of what is being reported points to the coolant housing and all the assorted pinning modifications. I began to remove my complete intake system. That's is when. I saw a pinkish red coolant marks on the heat exchanger. At first I thought that it was leaking due to a defect. I removed it from the adapter plate. That is where I found four "O" rings. Two if them are for the coolant the others for the oil. The coolant O rings showed heat stress and were completely flat and distorted. The oil ones looked fine. See pictures

If you look close at picture 4, you can see the coolant is collecting below. Also, take a look at the "O" ring at the right; this is the coolant "O" ring. They are 26mm (ID) and 3mm thick. I had replacements but are not Porsche parts. I have not put anything back and thinking I might stop by the parts department and just get them. I believe this was my area of the coolant leak. I inspected the coolant housing and the hoses that are associated with coolant loop. All looks good. Champion Motorsports, makes aluminum elbows that are bellow picture 4. They attach thru the bottom with a screw and provide the coolant flow to the heat exchangers.

As a little side note and tip for those that have to repair/replace the orings.
Porsche recommends using Optimol Paste part number 00004320510
With these orings I use the DOW MolyKote 55 Oring lubricant. The MolyKote 55 will actually will keep the oring pliable to prevent hardening over time.
