Default How Much is Dealer CPO Worth?

I found a dealer CPO 14,000 mile 2008 997TT in Meteor Grey with Adaptive Sport Seats, LSD Nav, Bose, the works. They're asking $82,500. How much of a premium is justified for the CPO and low mileage.

What would be a realistic offer a dealer might accept on this car?

That's actually not a bad price. They probably won't take under 80k. How does it have CPO? 2008 + 6 is 2014. The CPO should be running out this year at the latest.

That's what I thought, but the add says two years from date of sale or 100,000 miles. Check it out…

It's either this or I outbid a fellow Rennlist member on the Guards Red car.

P dealers can offer two years and 100k miles, I'd say it's worth 3-5k on the price.
That's a very low mile 08, adaptives and LSD are the key options IMO.

Agree. You should be able to negotiate that price down a bit, but having CPO is worth it.

Agree - CPO is a real plus. Here are the rules re CPO -

CPO Warranty coverage:

Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty covers up to 6 years, or a cumulative 100,000 miles, from the original in-service date (whichever occurs first), if the vehicle is still under the new car limited warranty at the time of purchase.
For vehicles no longer under the new vehicle limited warranty at the time of used retail delivery, Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty coverage extends until the earlier of:
• 2 years from the date of used retail delivery
OR
• 50,000 miles from the mileage at used retail delivery, but not to exceed a cumulative 100,000 total miles on the vehicle

Agree. The dealership has about $2,500 real costs into the CPO process.

I agree as well. There should be some wiggle room in this price, but not a lot. My car is a CPO bought last March with higher mileage but is an '09 (updated PCM), was in pristine condition, and was priced in this ballpark.

My dealer did several grand of CPO covered work during its one and only trip to the shop so far. So that just about paid for the CPO premium right there and I have 11 more months of added peace of mind.

My opinion is you need to look at the total package, the total cost of the car and price it according to market.

Look at it this way. The car has low miles and is still a "new" car (at least in miles), so the CPO warranty is just replacing the new car warranty that wasn't all used up, so to speak, by the previous owner.

(Also, most of the time dealers pick cherry cars so they do not have to do any real work to bring the car up to spec.)

I'm not up on used 997 Turbo market prices. All I can tell you is I found a low miles (10K) 996 Turbo (with a CPO warranty) back in 2009 and paid just about $5K less than the dealer's asking price. Dealer had listed the car for $62K and I got it for $57.6K. BTW, that Turbo was a 2003 model year car and I paid under half of what the car cost new ($119K).

You are looking at a 2008 example and it is now (obviously) 2015, so the car is 7 years old. What did the car sticker for new? Take that and cut it in half and take some more off and start from there.

Craig, go for the red one! I was only put a place holder bid in at 60k and I was gonna bump it up to high 60s. As most said, that red one is probably a 70k car so I doubt I would be able to steal it for high 60s. I'll step aside, you go for it!

Thanks Biswan. I just put in a bid for $69k. Didn't hit the minimum. I'll call him and offer $70k.

Personally the CPO is worth it and costs the dealer at least $2000, I picked up a 2009, 20K miles with PCCB, nav, vent seats, bose and others for about the same price 4 months ago- and they dropped the engine to replace the spark plugs for good measure, and it had 20 in champions with 70% tread on the tires.
Nothing on the car is cheap to fix and you have 2 years of total peace of mind.

The difference in the price of the cars was $8K. I went with the lower cost non-CPO. The way I look at it, I saved another $800 in sales tax as well. That's $8,800 I have to spend on repairs over the next two years.

With a full PPI, new clutch and slave cylinder, and only about 4,000 driven per year, I doubt I'll hit the $8800 in repair expenses. Hopefully!
