Possibility that 997.1 and .2 turbo prices will fall significantly
Has anybody considered the frightening thought that maybe ALL 997 turbo prices will decline now that 2017 Carrera's are going to have twin turbos? If indeed the coming Carrera S will have about the same hp and torque as a 997.1 or 997.2 turbo, who would want to buy a used turbo if they could get a new Carrera for around $105 K? This gives rise to my fear of a coming drop in the prices of our 997 turbos. Hopefully I'm wrong, and I hope you guys can convince me that I am wrong by giving me valid reasons, 'cause otherwise I will consider selling now.

It's always a possibility, but I don't really think it will happen. Here are my reasons:
1. The "turbo" will always be the flagship of the 911 line. The new base 911s will not be badged "turbo", even though the engines are turbocharged. The fact that the 997 turbo was the top of the 997 line will help it hold values.
2. There's more to the turbo than the engine. The package includes lots of upgrades to things like brakes, suspension, interior bits, etc.
3. A nicely equipped 991.2 will cost you more than $105K. If you add in all the goodies that are standard with a turbo, then your price climbs quickly.
4. Many people still prefer the 997 to the 991. There will always be a market for the 997.
5. The relatively low production numbers of the 997 turbo will keep it in exclusive territory and will hold prices.
I may be wrong, but those are my thoughts. I think the 997 turbo prices will slowly slide down as cars are driven more, but then they will stabilize and hopefully come up a little bit.
I've never really bought cars as and investment, so I don't worry about it very much.

If you're worried, sell it.. Otherwise, enjoy the car for what it is. Personally, I didn't buy my car with resale or investment in mind (not saying that others didn't).
As someone said, 997 being substantially more powerful than 993/930 didn't affect them in any way.
Besides, the 991.2 S has 414hp/329lbs.. Hardly "about the same".

Who knows but generalizing... 964s leak, 993s slow, 996s ugly and 991s too big. 997s just right in size and power. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but there are no bad angles on a 997. GT3s even better in some aspects but sum of the parts the 997t is more versatile. Market has it right so far.

Too many important things to worry about than a depreciating car.. With all the sh*t going on in the world I am just happy to wake up tomorrow, blessed to be alive.. You own a 997 TT, must have done something right in your life.. We all wish we had a crystal ball but unfortunately thats not how it works..
Worst case scenario it does depreciate, keep it, at the end of the day its a 911 Turbo, not a bad car to be stuck with

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Yeah, the 997 IS the right size and shape---you are completely right. I drove it home tonight over the mountains to the windward side of Oahu, and it made the commute home memorable. I'm not selling.

I wouldn't buy a 991 because of the Panamera console alone.
It's just so far away from the traditional look.
The wise ones are right, the 997 is awesome as it is.

How can you get a work out on those roads? We were there on holiday recently
and I was wondering where the Porsche and Ferrari guys go for some fun?
Awesome holiday by the way! What a cool place to live.

Since you live in place many of us only to get to vacation in I would like to make a proposition. You post a lovely scenic photo of your turbo every month and we'll tell you how much we love it!!

Actually, Oahu's roads are in bad shape due to deferred maintenance, so I'm always dodging potholes. There is no track, either, so the turbo doesn't get a workout beyond short squirts here and there. And, unlike NZ, we don't have trout in our streams---my fly fishing here is for small mouth bass while you guys get the big rainbows and browns. At least I can wet wade without freezing my butt, though.

Yeah, I'll post a scenic photo or two, but it'll be deceptive----you won't see the traffic clogged roads.
