If you are refering to the 99' to 00' change, it was a lot of things (more than just power).

If it's a 2.7 to 2.7 change, I would guess Management changes (chip/timing type stuff).

Wasn't 99' to 00' a 2.5L to 2.7L change? 02' to 03' was a change in just HP, from 217 to 225, with the same 2.7L motor. The S also changed HP numbers (exactly 8Hp IIRC) from 250 to 258. I think fourniem76 is wondering if this same factory change can be had with a powerchip, without buying a newer model.

Thanks for the replies...

what I understand is that the 2.7 engine was upgraded from 217 hp to 225 hp in 2003. I was wondering what the changes were, and if it is only a chip...or a re-tune of the DME...

I am also considering an EVO intake system and Powerchip ...wanted to know if anybody has these items...and get feedback..

Thk's again,

Michel.

The '02 to '03 change involved a change in cams, if I am not mistaken.

Yes, I believe the bump in 2.7L and 3.2L power was due to improvements in the Variocam routines. They tweaked the variocam and got more power (making me wonder how they did so, and whether I could do teh same to my car! ).

Thru research I've seen pretty good results from intake and ECU, depending on the ECU upgrade used...You definitely feel alittle pep in the mid-range with the intake.

The power change is an example of "done right". Peak power changed, but so did the curve - in both Torque & Hp - and esp. the Torque curve - much flatter, esp above 6K RPM.
The big "parts" was the change to the constantly variable "vane" type VarioCam found in the 2002 MY 911, and of course, the electronics to handle the hardware. Putting the 03 ECM on an 02 probably wouldn't do much - it's looking for different hardware.

Would it be too much to try and put the new hardware in the pre-03' variocam, or are we looking at a different cam altogether? Im not quite sure how variocam works anyway if someone wants to explain it. Im sure its different than VTEC, which is the only variable timing system i understand.
