So if you do:

Some tips on what changes were made by year as well as the good and bad points. Get a professional Porsche mechanic to go ocer it in what is called a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection). I bought my third mid engined Porsche and even I learned a lot from a PPI .

I don't see the issue, the Boxster is in the same power range as most sedans. He knows his son, and if he trusts he won't be an animal I would say go for it. Look at the upside, he can only put one friend in the car, less distraction.

A 2005 to 10 Boxster is now what a Toyota Crapolla was when we were 16. Time marches on. My first car was a 500+ hp 66 El Camino. I survived.

It would definitely be an experience he won't forget. I had access to all kinds of fast cars when I was 16. Was grateful my dad entrusted me and it sure made for some great memories that will last a lifetime. I was very responsible but definitely "knew what they would do". Still, at that age it's easy to be tempted into doing something you shouldn't, especially with friends in the car willing you on or driving in a group. There's also the "kid with the Porsche" stigma. Socially some kids think it's cool but plenty of others get weird and treat you differently. If you trust him to be responsible & treat the car well then I don't think it would be a big deal. He'll remember the experience very fondly and be grateful for it as he gets older. There's always the gps nannies to monitor his driving.

My first car was a 3 Cyl Chevy Sprint, to this day one of the greatest cars Ive ever owned. My second was a 84 vette which had a built motor that ran 11.30 1/4miles. I also added a supercharged thunderbird, at turbo Mitsubishi starion, and a 70 Chevelle also built. Car was a tad heavy but still ran in the 12s. This kid can handle a Boxster for sure. And yes some kids may hate on him, but hs girl will drool over him lol...

I got my 03 Boxster as a first car, and it's very reliable. Saved my life a couple times already.

You're right about that. When I was 22 I showed up to a party full of 17-20 year olds one time and they all hollered "whos porsche is that?!?!?" and I gained instant respect. Also it's kind of weird now that I'm going back to college, a community college at that, at the age of 24. I've already had some people in my class ask if the porsche is mine and start asking about it and what not. But i've received plenty of hate as well.

Just bought my 16 year old a 99 with the 5 speed and 65K miles.
I think it is almost a perfect car for a new driver who is a car guy. in today's world, a Honda or Kia is faster on an average day. we are putting a hard top on it for additional safety. He will be attending a PCA skills day with me before taking the wheel on his own.

Get him a beater as he is going to boink something for sure .... After he acquires "real life" driving skills get him a decent car unless you don't mind paying for bodywork in the near future ...

The only problem with having a Porsche as your first car is that everything in the future will be a downer unless it is another Porsche.
