2003 Porsche Boxster 986 wILL not start
NEED HELP---PLEASE; I cannot get my 2003 Porsche Boxster 986 started. I cannot figure out why. I originally changed the ignition switch and it started but then the starter started whining and then quit. So I change out the starter and at the same time, the oil cooler. I know that I hooked the starter up correctly. I have had the ECU refurbished and installed it. I have checked the main fuses and they are okay. I have rotated the key in the ignition and that is not the problem. I rotated the key in the door lock to no avail. I turned the steering wheel to no effect. I move the automatic shifter back and forth to no avail. The battery is good and I even tried jumper cables to no avail. The dash board lights up; the horn sounds; The right window moves [I have to work on the left window]. The heater and air work as do the turn signals. Is there a relay switch or something that I have not thought about or know about? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.....Kojac

Other than a 'no start', what are the symptom? Does it turn over? Does the fuel pump energize? Does the starter click? Is it throwing a CEL? Has the car run since you had the ECU refurbed?

I found that the replacement ECU did not have the CoAxe cable to it, so I sent it back to get another one. The engine did not turn over; there were no sounds from the engine at all. The ECU Tech people think that my cable connections might be corrode so I will clean them tomorrow. BUT when I get the replacement unit back next week, and if it still does not work, I suspect that it might be the Impule Sender. From the videos that I see, I cannot tell if the vehicle is a stick shift or not. I have an automatic transmission. That is where I am right now. The battery is 12.70 volts so the problem is not there.

Not familiar with Auto 986s. Do you have to press the brake pedal to start? If so check the brake lights for operation. Also there is an immobilizer in the car. Perhaps that is an issue with the new ECU.

Looks like it's in the central overhead console: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...onitoring.html

Hi
I'm sure you know this.
A replacement ECU will not work unless it is coded to the DME. Why did you have the ECU (I assume you mean alarm ECU and not the engine DME) refurbished? Is the alarm light flashing (look through windscreen).
Are you getting any codes thrown anywhere?
All the best
