Default 1998 porsche 986 boxster with 119,000 miles original motor

hi my dad has a 1998 Porsche Boxster 986 we really need help it's having a misfiring issue it only does it at idle i want to solve this asap because my dad told me if i do good in school i can have the car when I'm 25 I'm currently 18 before the motor blows we took the manifolds off and have installed headers and got rid of the cats it just runs through the muffler does anyone have any ideas of what it could be or so things that we could do to fix this it had a check engine light on before we have a obd2 reader and before the misfires started it was a o2 sensor code could that possibly be causing it? thank you in advance and would love too hear what ya'll think it could be respond asap please and thank you.

Did you install anything that replicates the o2 signal. I would start there is not.

Dllrd23 thanks for the reply no we have not replaced anything that replicates the o2 signal if i remember correctly we have normal o2 sensors in there i believe they are cheap ones though me and my dad are thinking about switching the ones that are further back near the headers with the ones that are near the muffler

I assumed that when the cats came out so did the o2’s. The downstream ones measure how well the cats are working. The ones closest to the engine in the exhaust stream have fuel control responsibility. I thought the upstream ones were directly in the cat?? Is this incorrect?

honestly i might be a little confused i have not looked under there in a while so i would have to look under there again how ever i did talk to my dad about it yesterday he said that when we get the time we will start with the o2 sensors not going lie my dad knows this car better then i do and since it's misfiring we should not drive it because it could cause more damage and also my dad said that he thinks it could be a rich misfire

Is the exhaust black and smell like fuel when it's misfiring?

Can we get close up pics of the spark plug ends? Also... clearer pics of the insides of the coils? What kind of plugs are you using? What brand of oil? Viscosity? When was the car last smogged? What is your experience working on cars?
