Longest Drive?
What is the longest continuous drive anyone has taken in their Boxster? I am thinking of driving it to Colorado Springs from St. Louis without stopping over. Trip is approximatly 13 hours. Anything to check before going other than the obvious oil and brakes?

Last summer I took my then new Boxster S from our home in Edmonton through the Rockies to our home on Vancouver Island. My wife and son were already out there so I was anxious to get there. I left at 3:00 AM and was in the mountains by 7:00. Absolutely no traffic as it was a weekday and I was on the "Road Less Travelled. Around Jasper I was passed by a guy in an M3 doing 180 kmh (approx 110 mph) this in a national park with a speed limit of 90 kmh (55 mph). I figured if the RCMP were around they'd get him first so I caught up to him. We spent the next hour driving together through this incredible mountain scenary at average speeds of 110-120 mph. Nothing crazy and not racing, just two guys enjoying their cars. We slowed to 80 mph on some of the curves and in the whole time never saw another vehicle in either direction. Finally he turned off and gave a wave.
The whole trip was 1300 kilometers (800 miles) and I got to our Island home 16 hours after I left. This included a 3 1/2 hour ferry trip so only 13 hours seat time almost all of it with the top down (had an hour of rain). The Boxster is a fantastic long distance car, probably one of the best there is. I had a bit of sun burn on my face but it was worth it. I'm making the same trip in this July and will every summer.
Enjoy your car.

Make sure you bring cool music !!
My record is about 700 KM non stop on one tank of petrol in about 5 hours. I filled the car at the start and when I arrived the trip computer was reading "----" kms left in tank.

5 hours for me.
NW New Jersey to Glouster Mass. Car was smooth as silk. Got over 26 MPG even with a couple of short 100+ mph stints (much to the wife's chagrin...although she didn't say a word.) Arrived feeling like I just took a ride around the block....and I'm 50. I was duely impressed.

I drove my '02 from Reading PA to Topeka KS, well over 1200 miles in 20 hours. We also towed a small tire trailer as we were on our way to the SCCA Solo2 Nationals.
I've since driven my '04 S over 800 miles in one day on my way to SanDiego in the winter of '05.

1100 miles spread over 2 days from PA to FL the weekend we bought the car. We could have gone all the way but we didn't get out of the dealership until 3pm so we decided to catch some sleep in NC. Perfectly comfortable. Easily as comfortable as we were in the Volvo on a similar trip over the same roads.

Ours has been to the last 5 PCA Parades:
Milwaukee (near our home town)
Boise
Tampa
Fort Worth
Hershey
Going to Portland this year (2100 miles)
A great car for trips, we usually take 3 weeks off for the Parades and spend most of it in the car!
Check your tires to see how much tread you have left, I had to buy rear tires in Tampa!

Cinci to Orlando in 2000 for a Disney vacation. We stayed in Macon, GA on the way down just because we had the time. (My *** wouldn't be comfortable in a Lexus for longer than 12 hours or so.) Overall it was a very comfortable trip. We averaged 28 mpg with a best stint of 31.5 mpg. Car ran fantastic all the way down and back up.
The best part was when we left the hotel... We were staying at the Wilderness lodge. We brought all of our luggage out and set it by the concierge (?). When I pulled up in the little roadster, they all gathered and watched because they didn't believe it would all fit!!! No problems, of course!

Well, my first drive in a Boxster was last week when me & my wife put over 2000 miles on the car over two days. In the first day, we made it from Texas to Columbus, Ohio - I think we put in a 20 hour day including about 2 hours to see Graceland & Beale St in Memphis. I was VERY impressed by how easy and comfortable it was to gobble up miles in this machine. Fuel economy was pretty good too - about 9.5L/100km - including some stints at about 100mph, and some stop & go in Memphis. It was a great way to get to know my new car!

The "problems" have been limited to the following:
at 30,000 miles the top mysteriously started unravelling & Porsche replaced it for free (the car sleeps indoors next to my 930 every night).
At around 110,000 miles the exhaust manifold developed a stess crack/leak that my mechanic repaired in short order.
At around 125,000, my mother ran the car through a puddle of water and it upset the sensor that controls the check engine light.
Other than that, she uses virtually no oil, and other than consumables, she runs better than new, and with the help of a full front end bra, and a religious wax schedule, the car looks as good as new.
These engines truly do get better with miles.
I will post pics when she finally crosses the 150,000 threshold. I think I am at 149,400...
